C97 A Cute Girl Who Was Using Heavy Weapons

Upon seeing the carriage, Xiong Xiu'er's opinion of Lee Yu had already diminished by a notch, especially with the presence of a girl in the group. Any favorable impression she might have had of him evaporated entirely.

To her, he was nothing more than a womanizer seeking notoriety.

Yet, the sight of the bandage enveloping Lee Yu's back made her reassess. Setting other things aside, she firmly believed in the adage 'scars are a person's romance,' which held significant weight in her eyes.

'Impressive strength!'

Lee Yu, drawing on his knowledge of etiquette, initiated a traditional Xiong's greeting with the girl before him—fists clenched, they tapped their knuckles together.

The instant they touched, Lee Yu was taken aback by the formidable force that met him, far surpassing that of Xiong Feng's.

"Your strength isn't bad, but you're a bit on the small side. You need to eat more!" Xiong Xiu'er commented.

Lee Yu had no aspirations for a muscular physique; he simply nodded without objection.

The Xiong's prized robust beauty, and it seemed they were right.

"What's your current cultivation level?" Xiong Xiu'er inquired, her eyes gleaming.

Lee Yu replied calmly and confidently, "Peak of Sixth Grade."

Cui, observing from the sidelines, was utterly astonished, yet a wave of relief washed over her.

'The child has grown wise, knowing when to conceal his abilities!'

"We're at the same level. Let's spar sometime..." Xiong Xiu'er began, but upon noticing Lee Yu gesturing towards his back, she realized he needed time to heal and prepare for the Hundred Clans Assembly. She swiftly pivoted, "After the Hundred Clans Assembly, we'll have a go. I've heard that only one person can possess the Thunder Bloodline at any given time. If I catch up, I must see for myself just how formidable it is."

"Definitely, next time!"

This girl was clearly a fellow warrior at heart.

Lee Yu mused to himself, but he found Xiong Xiu'er to be quite reasonable. After a brief exchange, she took command of her four-armed bear and rejoined her Bear Army.

"The Hundred Clans Assembly is becoming more intriguing by the minute!"

Lee Yu settled back into the chariot, continuing to refine the spiritual energy produced from the fruit wine within his body.

The stronger he became now, the fewer surprises he'd face later on.

Besides, this world was far from safe. He had already survived one assassination attempt, and who could tell how many more would come after the Hundred Clans Assembly concluded?

Even Qing Anqi, the esteemed daughter of a County Duke, wasn't immune to covert attacks. Those with designs on him were likely to be as numerous as carp crossing a river.

In the days that followed, Lee Yu found his opportunities to visit Qing Yangde's tent dwindling.

Particularly after the troops had regrouped, the two generals were increasingly occupied once they had left Xiong's lands. Most of their time was spent on the move, marching swiftly.

"On Blue Star, we would have probably crossed half of China by now," Lee Yu mused, somewhat astonished.

Both the Azure Sun Army and the Bear Army marched with Divine Dao cultivators as their soldiers, maintaining a high rate of progress each day. They traversed mountains, forded rivers, and cut through thickets without any loss of speed.

After nearly a month of such travel, their destination was only just coming into view.

"How vast must a complete Qin Empire have been?" Lee Yu pondered, recalling the even larger Ming Empire from his past life, of which the current Ming territory was but a third.

What kind of monstrous force had led to the downfall of such an expansive empire?

"Young Master, we'll be entering the direct jurisdiction of the Ming Royal Family in one more day," Cui announced as she stepped back into the chariot. "It's been quite peaceful lately."

Apart from the ambush at One-Line-Sky, they had encountered calm waters once outside the territories.

"The Qing's and the Xiong's were targeted because they had sent men prepared to die without a trace, leaving no fear of reprisal."

"In the Ming Empire, the Qing's and the Xiong's hold considerable sway. As we pass through other domains, they assist in clearing the path, wary of being framed for any misdeeds. Now that we've joined forces, with our numbers combined, no one dares provoke us. Have you forgotten that?"

Lee Yu spoke up.

He was referring to an earlier encounter, when they had passed a desolate mountain and stumbled upon a small clan.

At that time, they witnessed a band of men in black weaving in and out of the clan's army. Their sudden appearance likely prompted the men in black to withdraw. Still, of the clan's five hundred soldiers, fewer than a hundred remained.

This meant the clan had forfeited their eligibility for the Hundred Clans Assembly, as the three young representatives they had chosen were now deceased.

The incident was a stark reminder to Lee Yu of the unchecked power that reigned in this world.

"By the way, Young Master, the general asked me to give this to you."

Lee Yu accepted the document from Cui. "Brother Yangde?"

"Mhm."

Lee Yu hadn't even opened the document when the signature on the cover caught his eye.

'The Ming Imperial Family?'

The Qing's library was extensive, covering many clans, and the Ming Imperial Family was the largest within the Ming. Lee Yu had taken a particular interest in the Great Imperial Capital, so naturally, he had paid close attention to this clan.

Opening the document, Lee Yu found it detailed the Ming Imperial Family's plans for the upcoming Hundred Clans Assembly.

Before he could delve into the contents, a familiar voice floated in from outside.

"Yu, come out and practice."

"I'll be right there," Lee Yu called back, stepping out of the carriage to find two armies had already encamped, fortifying their positions.

Off to the side, Xiong Xiu'er watched him with eager eyes.

Since Qing Yangde let slip about Lee Yu's narrow escape from an ambush by two assassins of equal rank, and his subsequent victory over them, Xiong Xiu'er's interest had been piqued.

To defeat two Sixth Grade assassins single-handedly was no small feat. Xiong Xiu'er had always assumed Lee Yu was of the Sixth Grade himself.

She was convinced of Lee Yu's prowess. Many assassins might lack extensive training, focusing solely on accumulating spiritual energy and mastering a technique or two. But these life-for-life techniques could make them formidable opponents in short order.

And now, Xiong Xiu'er was eager for a chance to spar with Lee Yu, to test his mettle herself.

Lee Yu found himself incessantly pestered by Xiong Xiu'er until he finally agreed to a sparring match after they were stationed. To his surprise, he managed to best Xiu'er with ease. From then on, she affectionately called him "Yu Brother" and seized every opportunity to spar with him again.

"Is there really such a thing as a martial arts fanatic!?" Lee Yu wondered, somewhat exasperated.

Despite his frustration, Xiu'er only ever insisted on sparring. She would give him these pitiful looks that said everything without a word, leaving Lee Yu with little to say in response.

Over time, their repeated encounters brought them closer together...

"What's on the training agenda today?" Lee Yu asked, limbering up. "Will it be the hammer, the halberd, or something else?"

Xiong Xiu'er, at eighteen, might have had the cherubic face of a young girl, but her physique was anything but delicate. She was all sinew and muscle, a testament to her dedication to training with heavy weaponry. When she wielded her copper hammers, they moved with the grace and fluidity of flowing water.
