C14 Dragged into Hell

Perhaps it was because she was too tired, but in the end, Jeannette was able to get a good night's sleep. When she woke up the next morning, she felt dizzy and sent a message to Phyllis to ask for leave. She was not going to attend the second day's meeting. She rarely took leave, so Phyllis immediately agreed. After receiving the reply, Jeannette turned off her phone and fell asleep.

She slept until noon. After washing up, Jeannette opened her computer and wanted to check if there were any missed lessons and assignments. Surprisingly, there wasn’t a single one. All of them had been completed. Therefore, Jeannette had nothing to do the rest of the afternoon.

Jeannette was surprised that she had been able to get some time off work, but she did not know what to do. She stared blankly at her desk for a long time. She took out her headphones and inserted them into her ear. She then opened up a video app in the folder that had been sealed for a long time. She clicked on a new variety show and started watching it.

She was able to watch it. Occasionally, she would smile with the guests. If anyone who knew her saw this scene, they would be shocked. Everyone knew that Jeannette was the new scientific research maniac of the University of Haham. They thought that she would only study and study after eating and sleeping. They did not expect her to watch such fast food entertainment programs. Could it be that she had indigestion?

When she saw that it was already past 9 p.m. and she was hungry, Jeannette stopped her entertainment and prepared to go to the student supermarket to buy shoes and snacks to fill her stomach. Just as she was about to go downstairs, her cell phone rang and a notification popped up on the screen. It was a call from Ward.

There was a long row of open space under the female graduate student dormitory. Other than parking cars, it was the most common scene to see people waiting for their girlfriends downstairs. It was especially lively at the three meals time. Many people got to know each other here and would often come here for a double date. In the words of a single person, it was called the “City Club.”

At night, there was another kind of scenery here. It was a bit ambiguous and could not be described in detail. Only those who were in the area would understand. For example, at this moment, Ward was standing there with a bag in his hand. He was listening to the couple who were a meter away from him flirting. His ears were red. Fortunately, Jeannette came out of the building very quickly.

After not seeing her for a day, Ward felt that Jeannette had become much more haggard. However, when he thought about the fact that she had applied for a sick leave today, he understood the reason.

“Are you feeling better?” Ward walked up and asked.

When she received the call from Ward, Jeannette was a little surprised. However, when they were face to face, she was very calm.

"It's better now," she said. "Why did you come to see me?"

"It's nothing." Ward smiled and said, "Didn't you get sick today? Ms. Wilkins bought some medicine from the pharmacy on your way back. She asked me to deliver it to you."

Jeannette did not expect Phyllis to help her buy medicine. She hesitated for a moment before reaching out to take the bag. She glanced at the street lights and saw that it was indeed some common cold and fever medicine.

"Thank you," Jeannette said.

"You're welcome." Ward scratched his head and said, "Oh yeah, Noah also has something for you."

"Noah?"

"Yes, he was at the same table as Mr. Noah for lunch. He said that he had something for me to help him pass."

Jeannette's heart skipped a beat when she heard this. She stared at Ward as he took his bag out. However, what he took out in the end was an extremely small thing — a cartoon ornament.

Jeannette's heart sank to the bottom of the valley when she saw this. For a moment, she could only smile bitterly.

"Mr. Noah said that you fell on the taxi last night. He asked me to return it to you."

It was indeed her item. She bought it during her second year of college. She hung it on her bag all the time. She didn't know how it fell last night, but it must have been broken and could no longer be hung.

"Thank you," Jeannette said softly as she received the gift.

"It's nothing. If you want to thank someone, thank Noah."

Ward smiled and said goodbye to her after completing the task. Jeannette stood below the building, holding the pendant in her hand. She was slightly lost in thought.

Actually, she had thought of using the most unbearable method to hold onto Noah. Even if she was despised by everyone, she still wanted to stay by his side. She knew that although everyone in the school said that he was the most capable man, Noah was not a person who would act recklessly. Even if he had no moral bottom line, he still had his own pride, and not just any woman would fancy him. Besides, he had his own set of moral standards and strictly adhered to them.

Jeannette had thought about it. If she really did hook up with Noah in an immoral way, then he might really choose to be responsible and stay with her. Unfortunately, she wouldn't.

The love she wanted was never a charity. She would not use this to drag a man like Noah into hell. She had been in it for a long time, so she knew the taste of it.

Clenching the pendant in her hand, Jeannette turned around to look at the couple who were in love, then turned around and left.
