C6 Disregard

Noah also saw Phyllis. He raised his hand and gave her a simple reply before walking towards her. He didn't pay much attention to her at first, but when he passed the pillar in the hall and saw the girl standing behind him, he paused for a moment. The girl was wearing a black coat, which made her skin look even fairer and her figure even slimmer. It seemed that her eyes had been following him the whole time. When he stopped, his gaze landed on a certain part of her body.

Seeing Jeannette, Noah's strange feeling returned. He quickly suppressed it and nodded at her. He then shifted his gaze to Phyllis and Ward.

"I didn't expect to see you again so soon. I didn't believe it when I saw your name on the agenda that day!" Phyllis greeted Noah with a smile, not noticing the slight change in Noah's expression.

"It was supposed to be our dean who came, but he couldn't leave, so I had to come in his place." Noah said with a polite smile.

"It seems that you have been developing well there. You can come out to attend the meeting on my behalf so quickly. How is it? Everything is going well, right?"

"I'm just a bit bored. Everything has just begun, and I haven't experienced it yet."

The two former colleagues were chatting nonchalantly. Jeannette and Ward stood to the side, looking at Noah greedily. It had been three months since they last saw each other. He was still the same as before. He was emitting a contradictory academic temperament, clean and neat, with a slight frown and a smile on his face. He had a unique charm and sexiness that made her unable to move her eyes away. As for him, other than the first glance, he did not give her another glance.

The two chatted for a while. Because Noah still had to go to the front to eat breakfast, they hurriedly parted ways. Phyllis watched him leave and turned around. She saw the stunned Jeannette and remembered that she had forgotten something. She slapped her forehead. "Really, I was too busy chatting with Teacher Noah that I forgot to tell you to say hello. Teacher Noah, you should have reminded me."

Jeannette pursed her lips and forced a smile.

When Phyllis entered the venue, there were already a lot of people inside. Some were locals, and some were from other places. Most of them had already known each other through many academic conferences. They were able to regain their friendship quickly. Phyllis soon became friends with a few young teachers. Jeannette and Ward naturally went to the students. Both of them were not good at socializing. When Ward sat down, he took out his phone and browsed through his social media applications. Jeannette took out his notebook and waited for the computer to turn on. His gaze swept across the venue. He found Noah's name on the second row of the corridor. He stared at it for a long time before he looked away.

Noah arrived five minutes later than he had come in the morning. He was wearing a suit jacket this time, which was a lot more than what he had worn in the morning. Jeannette greeted the people she knew and chatted with them for a few minutes before she finally sat down in her seat. She turned on her computer and took out her phone, turning it on silent mode. This was a habit he had since the day he started attending the academic conferences. Now that he was seeing it for the first time, he felt tears welling up in his eyes.

The academic conference in the city was held every year. Although it was hosted by three universities, and the venue was also in the city, Hong Kong, and San Francisco, the one who was the leader was always the University of Anshan in the city. Therefore, the scale of the conference was different from the other two cities. It was a bit like a home game. Since it was a home game, the teachers in the country would always have some advantages. They were more confident than when they were out to attend the conference. Everyone was quite calm and relaxed during the opening ceremony. However, the students who came with them had to squeeze in the back row. They had to keep their eyes on the keyboard and make notes. The teachers had to read these notes after the conference.

Jeannette was naturally the one in charge of making the meeting notes. Although Ward was also making notes, she was the one who organized and summarized everything, so naturally, she had to be more careful. Because of two small problems that she could not understand, Jeannette and Ward stayed behind for a while after the meeting. They were late for lunch, and when they arrived at the restaurant, there were only a few people left. Most of them went to the lounge.

The lunch was provided by the organizing committee, and it was a buffet. However, it was also because of this that there was nothing good left after they arrived late. Jeannette did not feel hungry, so she casually filled herself with some rice and vegetables. Ward, on the other hand, had a big plate of meat and vegetables, and he ate with relish.

"Jean, the second teacher I talked to today said that she used a model. I picked up a phone call at that time, but I didn't listen carefully. Did you remember it?"

Jeannette had a bad appetite, so she stopped eating after a few bites. When she heard Ward's question, she answered, "I'll remember it and send it back to you."

"Okay, thank you!"

Ward continued to bury his head in the food. As he ate, he realized something. When he raised his head, he realized that Jeannette had finished eating. He pushed his thick glasses that were as thick as a bottle and said, "I still have to wait for a while after I finish eating here. Why don't you go back and rest first? I still have to do something in the afternoon."

Jeannette did want to leave, but she was too embarrassed to bring it up in front of Ward. Now that she had heard him say it, she did not hold back anymore.

"Okay, then I'll leave first."

After delivering the dishes back to the kitchen, Jeannette carried the computer out of the restaurant.

As the venue of the event was located quite far away, the venue had specially set up a few lounges for the local teachers who were not able to return home in the afternoon. At that time, the students who would be attending the event were included, but Jeannette did not want to go. Firstly, she felt bored, and secondly, she did not want to be with Phyllis.

Jeannette was very respectful to Phyllis, but there was nothing else in her heart other than that. She didn't want to get close to her. She had always been like this, even though she had been loved by all the teachers for her excellent grades since she was young. However, she never used this opportunity to become a bridge between her and her teacher. She always treated her teacher with respect, but she was far away from her teacher.

Since she did not want to go to the lounge, Jeannette went back to the conference room. She remembered that there was a small door there, and there was a small balcony behind it. She could take advantage of the fact that there was no one there to go there and bask in the sun.

As expected, there was no one in the conference room. With a computer in her hand, Jeannette pushed open the small door. Immediately, the fresh air and the afternoon sunlight blew into her face. Before she could take a deep breath, white smoke wrapped around the fresh air and was absorbed into her lungs. She coughed out of surprise. In her panic, she saw the culprit looking at her.

It was Noah.
