C4 She Was Flirted with

Jian Yun should have just listened to her instincts and ran the other way when she had the chance. Liancheng was dangerous–that was enough to decipher from his devious features and his patted-down suit, but she thought that he wasn't the type to do anything crazy. Hell, Jian Yun didn't expect that the man who had saved her was the bastard responsible for this mess! Yet, it seemed that her naive thoughts came back to bite her in the head.

"So...so you're Liancheng. It's nice to meet you," she murmured awkwardly, struggling to pretend as if she hadn't just cursed the man's head off. But it was already too late to make any proper introductions.

He stared at her for a few more seconds before turning away. The smirk on his face had faded. Instead, Huo Liancheng regarded her with a certain indifference that could send many men running for the hills. Jian Yun steadied herself, curling her fingers into small fists. There was something about this man that made her feel as if he was watching her every move, and she hated it.

Her lips curled, and her hand ran down her already tangled hair. She had really dug her own grave this time around.

"Miss Jian," Cheng Muze interrupted the two of them, amused by their interaction. "Let's head back to the car."

The tension in the car was even worse. Jian Yun buried herself in the leather seat, refusing to look at either of them in the eye. After all, she had just called Liancheng an asshole right in front of his face. How could it get more embarrassing than this? She suppressed a groan. If only the seat could swallow her up right now.

"Were should we drop you off, Miss Jian?" Cheng Muze glanced at the rearview mirror.

"Ming's Enterprise."

At her answer, his eyes widened in surprise. "You work at Ming's?"

"Yes." She subconsciously looked at Liancheng, only to see him staring back at her upon learning where she lived.

However, upon meeting his gaze once more, Jian Yun wished she hadn't. There was a certain promise under the depths of his dark gaze that made her shudder in fear.

Why did she feel like she had heard his name before? It felt as if she had seen him from somewhere...

Cheng Muze didn't say another word after that. As soon as she was greeted with the familiar sight of her neighborhood, she breathed a sigh of relief. Finally, this crazy night was coming to an end.

"Thank you so much," Jian Yun flashed them a smile before rushing through the gates as if was participating in a marathon. If she had stayed for another second, she might say something else to embarrass herself even more. After all, she had been humiliated enough for the day.

Jian Yun didn't look back, unaware that the luxurious Bentley hadn't left immediately. Instead, its tinted windows were lowered just enough to reveal Liancheng's calculating eyes. His lips were pursed as he took in the retreating woman.

"She has lovely eyes," Cheng Muze praised as he stared at the building.

Ignoring his words, Liancheng turned to the driver's seat. "Just drive."

The Bentley quietly drove into the night. After a long period of silence, Cheng Muze suddenly spoke, "But then again, that matter has nothing to do with you."

At Xinyuan district, Jian Yun had just gotten home when a loud ring echoed across the apartment. When she pulled her phone out of her bag, she saw that it was her roommate, Luo Yanyan. Suddenly, as she answered the call, Luo Yanyan's panicked voice sounded from the other end of the line. "I heard that Xu Haiyang's coming back in a month."

"What?" Jian Yun collapsed onto her seat, feeling as if her heartstrings had just snapped into two.

She had no idea what she told Luo Yanyan after that, or how she had hung up the phone. The moment she had regained consciousness, she was already leaning against the balcony, taking in the glittering cityscape. The night stars glistened all around her, but even then, the bright scenery wasn't able to calm her down.

It had already been six years since the incident, yet Jian Yun remembered that day like the back of her hand. Not only had she learned that Lin Lanlan, her best friend, was her half-sister, but she had also learned that Lin Lanlan was pregnant with Xu Haiyang's baby. He had been Jian Yun's first love, her first boyfriend, her first everything. They had been high school sweethearts, and it seemed that their relationship had simply trickled down the drain as if it was nothing but a toy they had played with.

Jian Yun wanted to be angry at her half-sister, to be furious at her for stealing her man, but when Lin Lanlan knelt down and defended her love, she bit her tongue. Jian Yun had no other choice but to sit back and pick up the broken pieces of her own heart.

However, the harm caused by all of this couldn't compare to what Xu Haiyang said to her when he saw Lin Lanlan kneeling to her …

Staring at the night sky, Jian Yun felt her lips quiver at the thought. It seemed that all of this was just the beginning.
