C140 Little Demon Was Going to Make a Fuss

The sergeant had a hunch. He thought that maybe next time the police department had an autopsy case, and if Prof. Huangfu was in one of his moods, he might be able to talk to this seemingly timid young girl. Perhaps she could help calm Prof. Huangfu down.

"No need, I'm an intern assistant. It's my duty to stay and help the professor," Ye Yuvyuv said softly, her voice barely above a whisper, not even lifting her head.

Everyone thought she was just too timid. But Huangfu Sinan squinted, realizing his "Little Demon" was up to something. He clearly noticed that although she kept her head down, her eyes were subtly glancing at the operating table where a newly brought-in "living corpse" lay.

A "living corpse," wasn't it just that? The person was still breathing, yet they were about to be dissected like a cadaver. What else could you call it?

Ye Yuvyuv stayed, standing to the side, listening intently as the gang leader explained the critical points. "Cut open his stomach. Inside, there's something very important, protected by a special crystalline membrane. Only body heat can preserve it, and the time is short. You can't take more than ten seconds to retrieve it. Once you take it out, immediately strip off the membrane and take out the pearl inside, placing it in here."

As the gang leader's sinister words fell, one of his men brought over a box. Ye Yuvyuv's lowered gaze, peeking through her bangs, saw it was a small freezer box. She had often seen such boxes in her previous life; they were used only in labs. Small, about the size of a medical kit, square-shaped, with dry ice inside, capable of freezing for eight hours.

A strange feeling swept over Ye Yuvyuv. The gang leader's words seemed odd. He had just said the item needed the warmth of a living body to be preserved. If it required body heat, then taking it out and placing it in either room temperature or a freezer box would surely ruin it, wouldn't it?

Ye Yuvyuv sensed that things weren't as straightforward as they seemed. She suspected the mob boss was hiding something. Sinan also picked up on the odd vibe, but he wasn't particularly concerned. He pointed to the person being placed on the operating table and said, "Are you sure you want me to proceed? Once I start, this person will truly become a corpse. Who's going to take the rap for murder?"

Ye Yuvyuv's eyes widened, realizing Sinan had hit the nail on the head. Exactly, the person was still alive, albeit barely hanging on. If Sinan made a single cut, that would be the end of it. Although, from her observation, the person didn't have much life left in them.

"We'll take responsibility," the mob boss said sharply, pointing at the person on the table. "This traitor broke our rules and deserves to die. Let this be a way to atone, sparing his family."

Yuvyuv shuddered at the mob's ruthlessness. She instinctively took a step forward, her small hand clenched in a cold grip, when suddenly Sinan's large hand enveloped hers. She stopped moving.

Her eyes remained fixed on the cold operating table, her amber gaze reflecting an eerie, cold light. Without drawing attention, she began writing something in Sinan's palm.

Sinan shifted slightly. He suddenly spoke up, "Fine, but when I perform surgery, I don't like having an audience. Everyone needs to leave except for my assistant."

"No way!" the mob boss barked.

"Well, you can take him away right now," Sinan chuckled, glancing at the mob boss. "But this person won't last half an hour. And since you came to me, you must know I'm the best in Haicheng, maybe even the whole country, when it comes to this kind of work. Feel free to try your luck elsewhere."

After Sinan finished speaking, he gently pulled Yuvyuv, who had been keeping her head down, aside, clearly indicating he was done with the situation.

The gang leader's face darkened with anger, and he started to draw his gun. But one of his sharp-looking henchmen leaned in and whispered, "Boss, this is the military hospital. We can't mess with the military doctors. If this goes south, the big boss will be furious, and none of us will come out unscathed."

The gang leader quickly suppressed his anger, shot a glare at Sinan, and gestured for his men to leave.

As he reached the door, the gang leader gave Sinan a menacing look and warned, "If the goods get damaged, you'll pay with your life."

Sinan chuckled coolly, showing no fear. "Big talk. In that case, I better not operate," he replied, casting a mocking glance at the gang leader.

Just then, the sergeant hurried over to smooth things over, coaxing the gang leader to leave and offering Sinan a few flattering words with a smile.

Once the police and gang members had exited the autopsy room, Sinan casually closed the door behind them.

Turning around, he was surprised to see Yuvyuv had already moved ahead of him, standing by the body. She was inserting a silver needle into the throat of the seemingly lifeless figure, leaning in to listen closely.

Sinan was shocked to see the body’s mouth move, not just breathing but weakly trying to speak.

Narrowing his eyes, Sinan quickly approached, eager to hear what was being said. Unfortunately, by the time he got there, the voice had faded to silence.

"Little Demon, what did he say?" Sinan asked, grabbing Yuvyuv's arm as she turned away, his strikingly handsome face showing a scrutinizing gaze as he looked at her.

Huangfu Sinan thought to himself that this Little Demon always managed to surprise him.

Ye Yuvyuv quickly swatted Huangfu Sinan's hand away, her face stern. "Keep your hands to yourself and get to work."

With an unprecedented seriousness, she swiftly arranged the surgical tools on the table. Turning to Huangfu Sinan, she said gravely, "Why are you still standing there? Move quickly; he won't last another half hour."

"Little Demon, aren't you planning to save him?" Huangfu Sinan asked, his expression slightly puzzled.

"What do you mean?" Ye Yuvyuv retorted, quickly understanding the implication. A mocking smile played on her lips as she glanced at the man lying on the cold operating table. "Those gangsters are ruthless. If he had any chance of survival, do you think they'd have brought him here? He's beyond saving."

Huangfu Sinan's expression froze for a moment. He had thought that when the Little Demon had written "clear the area" in his hand, she intended to save the man. But soon, he couldn't help but laugh at himself. "Yeah, the guy's barely breathing; there's no saving him now."

He realized that after witnessing the Little Demon revive a body deemed a corpse yesterday, he had subconsciously started viewing her as some kind of miracle worker.
