C145 Are You Really My Yuvyuv?
Huo Lingxiao's eyes were cold as he reached out and pulled her close. "Tell me, why are you upset? Is it because I asked whose woman you are, hmm?"
Ye Yuvyuv bit her lip, silently protesting.
"Alright, alright, you've learned to challenge me. We'll deal with this disobedience later," Huo Lingxiao said, dragging her along as he strode away.
Not far off, Sinan leaned against the doorway, watching the two disappear, his eyes narrow and unreadable.
At the military hospital, in a secret underground base three levels down, Ye Yuvyuv followed behind Huo Lingxiao, moving slowly. Yet, she never missed a step, navigating each turn with her eyes almost closed. She knew this place all too well.
In her past life, she had spent years here, so the environment was second nature to her. Initially, Huo Lingxiao worried about the complex layout, with its maze-like corridors, thinking she might struggle to keep up. He deliberately slowed his pace for her.
But to his surprise, she kept up effortlessly, as if she could follow him with her eyes closed.
Effortlessly!
Huo Lingxiao's eyes narrowed sharply. He recalled the night he rescued her from the underground black market, where she had threatened him by revealing the location of this military secret base. How did this girl know about it? Could Uncle Ye have accidentally leaked it?
Huo Lingxiao quickly dismissed the thought. Uncle Ye was meticulous and would never make such a grave mistake. But then, how did she know?
Huo Lingxiao fell silent, realizing that Yuvyuv seemed to be hiding many secrets from him. For instance, the military secret base. Her impressive marksmanship and combat skills. And her knowledge of poisons, using them to save lives. Her every move at the military hospital was under Huo Lingxiao's watchful eye.
Huo Lingxiao suddenly stopped and turned around.
Ye Yuvyuv was walking with her head down and didn't notice him stop abruptly. She bumped into him and exclaimed, "Ah! Why did you stop all of a sudden?"
She couldn't help but glare at him in frustration, quickly lowering her gaze, not wanting to say another word to this man she considered a devil.
Huo Lingxiao looked at the small woman in front of him, thinking she was just being stubborn. A slight, indulgent smile played on his lips.
He gently lifted Ye Yuvyuv's chin, his smile cold yet captivating. "Yuvyuv, tell me, are you really my Yuvyuv?"
The chilling tone in Huo Lingxiao's voice sent a shiver through Ye Yuvyuv. Her initial shock was quickly hidden, though.
She angrily swatted his hand away. "Sixth Master, I'm not your Yuvyuv. I'm a ghost, so you better keep your distance, or I might just steal your soul."
Ye Yuvyuv suppressed her fear, using sarcasm to mask her trembling heart. This man was terrifying! His sharp instincts were starting to make him suspicious of her.
Was she revealing too much, or was it just his natural vigilance? Ye Yuvyuv didn't have the luxury to ponder this difference now. Besides, it didn't matter. If her unusual nature was discovered, she feared being sent to a lab as a test subject.
Even though Huo Lingxiao seemed to indulge her, it was only because he saw her as his personal treasure. The thought made Ye Yuvyuv's heart race with fear. She lowered her eyes, reining in her temper, and obediently followed behind Huo Lingxiao.
Welcome to the secret base.
The military's secret base is essentially a vast underground research area, dug deep beneath the morgue of the military hospital. It houses numerous laboratories equipped with some of the most advanced experimental devices found not only in the country but also around the world. Clearly, this underground research facility is a significant investment.
The primary focus here is on medical research and some highly confidential studies on bacterial and chemical defenses. The aim is not to create biochemical weapons but to defend against potential violations of international treaties by other nations, which could use such weapons to undermine the country's military strength.
This secret base was established under the leadership of Huo Lingxiao. Although Ye Yuvyuv often found his domineering nature infuriating, she had to objectively acknowledge his natural leadership qualities. Huo Lingxiao possessed a sharp mind, strategic foresight, decisive military prowess, and unmatched courage. A leader like him was a blessing for the nation and its people, deserving of respect and admiration. Except, of course, when he turned into a wolfish tormentor.
"Major General, you're here for an inspection?" A military doctor approached quickly, saluting with great respect. Ye Yuvyuv was momentarily taken aback by the formal salute. In her previous life, she had also worn a military uniform and executed the same crisp salute when meeting her superiors. Instinctively, she almost returned the gesture.
Huo Lingxiao gestured for Ye Yuvyuv to bring over the cooler. The military doctor looked at Ye Yuvyuv with some surprise. "Major General, who is this young lady?"
"My secretary and assistant," Huo Lingxiao replied without hesitation, his dark eyes flashing. He recalled Huangfu Sinan's provocation, claiming Yuvyuv as his assistant. Huo Lingxiao believed that his woman should naturally be his personal assistant.
Ye Yuvyuv looked up in shock, her hand trembling as the cooler she was holding almost slipped to the ground. She was bewildered, wondering when she had become the assistant to this great devil. It was terrifying, more so than seeing a ghost.
"Careful, Assistant Ye. This thing can't be dropped," Huo Lingxiao said with a slight curve of his lips, his strong hand steadying the cooler that nearly fell. There was a teasing glint in his eyes.
When Ye Yuvyuv snapped back to reality, she realized it was this infuriating man in front of her, the devil himself, who was deliberately teasing her. She glared at him in annoyance.
A military doctor nearby noticed and felt a jolt of surprise. He thought to himself, "Wow, this young assistant to the Major General is quite the bold one, daring to glare at him. Isn't she afraid he'll lose his temper and end her right there?"
But the military doctor was even more astonished when he saw that the Major General not only didn't get angry at the young woman's glare but actually smiled indulgently.
The doctor almost thought he was seeing things or that the effects of last night's drinks hadn't worn off yet.
Secret base. Underground cold storage.
There was a specialized freezer here for storing medications that required low temperatures and for freezing certain specimens. The cooler was carefully placed on the icy platform by the doctor named Miao.
Because it was a cold storage area, the workbenches here were as cold as ice. Dr. Miao wiped the chill from his forehead, still somewhat unsure, and looked at Huo Lingxiao. "Major General, are you sure there are live bacteria in here?"
