C147 Girl Are You Hurt?

Yuvyuv hadn't expected it, but for once, the Great Devil wasn't entirely insufferable.

The medics were taken aback. Huo Lingxiao actually trusted the hunch of a young girl like Yuvyuv, and their expressions showed it. Dr. Miao, in particular, thought their major was being far too lenient with her today.

Despite their skepticism about Yuvyuv's claims, with Huo Lingxiao present, they didn't dare voice their doubts too harshly. Instead, Dr. Miao and the others decided to let the facts speak for themselves and prove Yuvyuv wrong.

They quickly placed the bead into a protective case and carefully opened it. It turned out to be a fake pearl. Real pearls are solid and hard as stone, requiring significant effort and a cutting tool to open. Even then, they're solid inside and couldn't be used as a petri dish.

The ease with which the bead opened confirmed Yuvyuv's point: it wasn't a real pearl. When the bead split in two, a tiny glass vial, no bigger than a thumb, was revealed inside. The medics were astonished.

"They went to great lengths to protect whatever's inside. It might really be bacteria," Dr. Miao said, eyeing the small vial. Suddenly, he barked, "Don't take it out! Put it back, quickly!"

A medic, who was about to remove the vial, jumped in surprise. He'd never seen Dr. Miao look so grave. His hand shook, nearly dropping the vial, but thankfully, the soft padding inside the bead caught it.

Dr. Miao's face was a mix of shock and urgency as he pushed the trembling medic aside, scolding, "Step back."

The medic, seeing Dr. Miao's unprecedented sternness, didn't argue. He assumed Dr. Miao was angry because he almost broke the vial. After all, the near-miss had left him sweating with fear.

Especially at that moment, for some reason, the words of the young girl standing next to the Major General suddenly came to mind: "It might be a plague bacteria!"

"Dr. Miao, can you see anything wrong?" Huo Lingxiao asked, his handsome brow furrowed, his voice deep.

Dr. Miao was practically leaning against the outer protective barrier, carefully examining the tiny letters on the thumb-sized glass vial. After a while, he slowly straightened up and turned to Huo Lingxiao, his face pale and voice unusual. "Major General, the young girl was right. The vial does contain plague bacteria."

What!

The other medical officers all showed signs of fear, gasping in shock. It really was plague bacteria, which was terrifying. This was probably the first time their entire research base had come into contact with live plague bacteria.

The medical officers broke out in a cold sweat from the tension. When they looked at Yuvyuv again, their expressions varied. They couldn't understand how this young girl could be so certain it was the plague.

"How did you determine that?" Huo Lingxiao asked, his gaze steady as he focused on Dr. Miao. He had never doubted the young girl's words from the start, so he wasn't particularly surprised now.

Dr. Miao pointed to the small vial. "Major General, if you look closely, there's a line of letters on the vial: 'plg.' It's an abbreviation for a virus that only appears in R Country."

He emphasized, fearing the Major General might not take it seriously, "Major General, do you remember that I previously went undercover as a student in R Country's medical university?"

Huo Lingxiao nodded, aware of this. It was organized by his father, Great Marshal Huo, as a precaution against the cunning of R Country, sending a group of spies in advance. Dr. Miao was one of those medical spies.

Dr. Miao quickly said, "I've seen the letters on this bottle before. When I was with that professor from R Country, he proudly mentioned 'plg,' which represents a rising star in their medical field. He claimed it could win a battle effortlessly, using just one type of bacteria to achieve victory without fighting. What the professor referred to was the abbreviation for this plague bacteria."

The cold storage room was icy, yet everyone felt a chill running down their spines, their backs damp with sweat. The plague bacteria were terrifying! This confirmed the warning Ye Yuvyuv had given at the start.

Half an hour later.

In front of a newly moved-in lab table inside the cold storage, a petite figure in protective gear was busy at work. Her profile was calm and composed, and she handled the lab equipment with ease. Sometimes her movements were so swift, they seemed like magic, happening faster than a blink. From within the protective shield, there were occasional unsettling "sizzling" sounds, reminiscent of a thousand ants gnawing away, sending shivers down one's spine.

Several military doctors, especially Dr. Miao, watched intently, not daring to interrupt the young woman as she worked to destroy the live bacteria. Inwardly, they were in awe, silently praising, "She's a genius in the medical field, no, a prodigy. At such a young age, she can skillfully handle live bacteria."

Dr. Miao was the only one who had infiltrated R Country's medical university under a false identity to study bacterial cultivation with a professor. He understood better than anyone that when this young woman said she could eliminate the live bacteria, she truly could. She wasn't exaggerating or reckless; her method of destroying bacteria was even more impressive than that of the renowned war-mongering professor from R Country. It was as if she had performed this experiment hundreds of times before.

Dr. Miao felt that his previous skills were almost embarrassing to compare in front of the young girl.

Time ticked by.

In the entire cold storage room, the only sound was the clinking of the lab equipment in Yuvyuv's small hands.

When the final sterilization was complete, Yuvyuv watched the bacteria turn to ash in the alcohol flame, remaining cautious. She used forceps to hold the alcohol cover, placing it under a flame enhanced with special chemicals until the cover shattered with a "pop."

Someone behind her gasped in tension.

Huo Lingxiao strode over coolly. "Are you hurt, kid?"

"What are you doing here? Didn't I tell you all to stay back? It's dangerous."

Yuvyuv, encased in her protective suit, spoke with a slight breathlessness. It was so stifling!

She muttered, "Mission accomplished," then stood up, stretched, and opened her arms, signaling Huo Lingxiao to help her out of the heavy suit. She couldn't help but complain internally about the outdated protective gear—it was just too cumbersome. These suits had been phased out long ago.

Huo Lingxiao affectionately patted her head and personally helped her remove the protective suit.
