C40 The Man Was as Handsome as a God!
Even though it was her first time meeting the two little white wolves that night, they surprisingly approached her with a friendly howl and then gently nuzzled against her pant leg, seeking affection. The wolves circled around her joyfully, clearly delighted.
Not only was she taken aback, but even the hunter, Mr. Chen, was quite surprised. As they left Mr. Chen's place and headed down the mountain with the two wolves in tow, Ye Yuvyuv kept glancing back at the wolves following closely behind her, still in a bit of disbelief. She almost thought that maybe Mr. Chen had tricked her, swapping them with ordinary wolves that just happened to look like the legendary Snow Wolves.
It wasn't until they encountered a real pack of wild wolves on their way down that Ye Yuvyuv recalled the terrifying and bloody scene. Looking at the two little white wolves again, she finally realized these were indeed the legendary wolves that once caused a stir in the entire city. The townspeople believed they were divine creatures sent to protect them, having bravely torn apart countless enemies and saved an entire village.
As for Mr. Chen, he wasn't exactly a typical hunter, but that's another story.
By evening, Huo Lingxiao appeared. Ye Yuvyuv was sitting by a large wooden tub, soaking wet, happily giving Little White and Little Black a bath. She hummed a tune to herself, a song from after the founding of the country, careful not to sing the actual lyrics lest she inadvertently claim someone else's work.
Lost in her humming, she didn't notice the tall figure standing halfway behind her until she turned to grab a towel for the wolves. The sudden presence startled her.
With a gasp, she exclaimed, "When did you sneak up behind me? Are you trying to scare me to death?"
Ye Yuvyuv was bewildered. Even after her past life training at a military secret base, which had heightened her senses, she hadn't noticed this man at all. He stood there, calm and composed, as if he'd been there for ages.
Darn it, was this guy a ghost or something? He moved without a sound, not even a whisper of breath to give him away. If he had wanted to harm her, it would have been all too easy.
A chill ran through her as she realized the danger. This man was as powerful as he had been in her past life. Compared to him, she felt like a small, insignificant creature, easily crushed with a flick of his fingers.
The more she thought about it, the more a cold dread filled her. Reflecting on her recent interactions with him, she realized she had been reckless, almost forgetting who she was.
"Girl, what are you thinking about? You’re so lost in thought even with me standing here, huh?"
The man's tall figure stepped forward, casting a shadow that completely enveloped Ye Yuvyuv, who was sitting on the bench. His long, elegant fingers reached out and pinched her delicate chin. "What’s wrong, still in a daze?"
"You, let go of me."
Remembering everything that had just happened, Ye Yuvyuv felt a shiver run through her at the touch of his cool fingers on her chin. Instinctively, she tried to retreat, forgetting she was seated. As she leaned back, she suddenly toppled toward the large basin of water behind her, meant for washing the two snow wolves.
"Ah!" As she realized what was happening, her small hands flailed forward in a desperate attempt to grab onto something.
Otherwise, you might end up falling into the water and become a drenched mess.
As she flailed around, she suddenly felt a firm grip around her waist, pulling her back from her backward fall.
"Thud!"
Her forehead hit something hard, causing a brief dizzy spell. She looked up and found herself staring into a pair of deep, dark eyes that seemed to pull her in like a mysterious force.
Feeling entranced, she melted into the man's embrace, captivated by his gaze, momentarily forgetting to pull away.
It wasn't until the man, with a face as striking as a night deity, curved his thin lips into a slight smile that she snapped out of it, thinking, "He's so handsome!"
"Do you like what you see, girl?" His voice carried an undeniable allure, coaxing her into a response.
"Yes, handsome like a god," she replied, entranced, her pretty face tinged with a shy blush.
Her originally fair skin now had a rosy hue, adding an enchanting charm.
The man chuckled softly, lowering his gaze, his handsome face close to hers, smiling seductively, "In that case, how about a kiss?"
"Okay." She nodded with a silly grin, her heart pounding as she leaned in with her vibrant red lips.
The man watched with a teasing smile.
Just as her lips were about to meet his, a sudden howl interrupted the moment.
"Ah, what are you doing, let me go!"
Startled by the wolf's howl, she snapped back to reality, her vision clearing to reveal the strikingly handsome face before her.
Frightened, her heart skipped a beat, and she almost slapped the face in front of her.
As the man spoke in a cold voice, "These howling wolf pups should be killed and cooked. I bet they'd taste tender," Yuvyuv was immediately frightened and shouted, "No, you can't! I won't let you harm Little White and Little Black."
Turning to protect them, she saw that Little White and Little Black had already jumped out of the water basin. The two snow wolf pups, as if facing a great enemy, bared their sharp teeth and stared warily in Huo Lingxiao's direction.
The fierce look in the eyes of the wolf pups, as if they were protecting their owner, moved Yuvyuv deeply. She had only taken them in for one night, yet they already had a sense of loyalty.
Feeling happy, she reached out to hug Little White and Little Black, but suddenly, a pair of strong hands pulled her back. In one swift motion, Yuvyuv found herself sitting on the man's lap.
Startled, she turned her head, wanting to glare at him, but the thought of how intimidating he was made her voice falter as she frowned, "Let me go."
"Oh, let you go so you can hug those wolf pups?" Huo Lingxiao's handsome face darkened, and his strong arms tightened around her waist.
