C48 You Still Owe Me a Slap!
Huo Lingxiao's handsome face darkened after taking a slap.
Yuvyuv was stunned, her mouth agape, so tense she forgot to breathe.
"You silly girl, breathe. Do you want to suffocate?" the man scoffed coldly.
Startled, Yuvyuv gasped for air, her face pale with shock, staring blankly at the man, unable to react.
In her mind, a voice screamed, "Oh my God, I just slapped this devil! What have I done?"
She felt like she was losing her mind.
The hand that delivered the slap hung there, frozen in place, as if guilty of a crime, too shocked to pull back.
It remained stiffly extended beside Huo Lingxiao's ear.
Huo Lingxiao looked at the little thing he had scared, feeling a mix of anger and pity. He sighed internally, raising an eyebrow and softening his tone, "What’s the matter, girl? Was one slap not enough? Do you want to try another?"
Seeing Yuvyuv's dumbfounded expression, he realized she hadn't processed what happened. He reached out and tapped the culprit—her little hand—still frozen beside his ear.
Though he was angry and tempted to grab her hand and teach her a lesson, maybe even bite it as punishment, he remembered her condition and his face darkened further.
As Yuvyuv tried to retract her hand, she flinched at the sight of his darkening expression.
Her eyes widened with fear, thinking, "What do I do now? I actually dared to hit this temperamental devil. He might strangle me!"
Her face was a picture of panic as she imagined the worst.
Huo Lingxiao watched her, amused despite himself at her frightened little face.
His expression was cold and stern as he suddenly pulled out two documents from behind him, tossing one to Ye Yuvyuv. "Take it. The document is signed. Once you leave, make sure you memorize the terms inside. If you dare to break even one, just try it, you little thing!"
Ye Yuvyuv, with a bewildered look on her face, instinctively caught the document but didn't have time to look through it before the man stood up and effortlessly scooped her up.
A princess carry.
Ye Yuvyuv was even more stunned.
"What are you doing? Put me down," she said, her voice sharp and a bit panicked.
Huo Lingxiao winced slightly at the sound, having to calm her down. "Relax, I'm taking you out and sending you home."
"Out... home?" Ye Yuvyuv stammered, her mind slow to process. Her beautiful amber eyes widened in surprise.
She nervously asked again, "Are you saying I'm free to go home?"
Huo Lingxiao's ears were a bit overwhelmed by the excitement of the woman in his arms, and he was tempted to just drop her. But considering she had just fainted and come to, he nodded silently.
Without another word, he carried her out, his long strides confident and composed.
At the Ye residence!
Ye Yuvyuv was carried out of the military jeep by the man. She initially struggled to get out on her own, but then she heard his cold voice close to her ear, "Remember, you still owe me a slap. It's not that I don't care, I'm just keeping track, okay?"
Ye Yuvyuv shivered at the reminder, suddenly recalling how she had recklessly slapped him before they returned. Quickly, she turned meek, nestling quietly in his arms, not daring to move an inch.
Until she was carried into the Ye family living room by the man, under the astonished gazes of the family members, she was gently placed on the velvet sofa. Her mind was a bit hazy as she listened to her father talking with Huo Lingxiao. Then, her father personally saw Huo Lingxiao out.
Ye Yuvyuv was in a state of confusion, partly from being startled by the man and partly from not quite grasping the current reality.
Suddenly, a woman's sharp voice snapped her back to attention, "Well, well, our young lady sure is lucky. Wasn't that Sixth Master Huo who just carried you in? What's the matter, young lady? Are you hurt, or did you get into trouble again?"
It was Third Concubine Huang Xianxian's distinct sharp voice, laced with her usual sarcasm.
Ye Yuvyuv glanced at Third Concubine's charming face and tugged at the corner of her lips but didn't respond.
Third Concubine was surprised, thinking to herself, "Well, well, this troublesome girl, has she turned over a new leaf today, or is she just too shocked to talk back?"
Third Concubine had originally intended to throw a few jabs at the girl as usual. She just couldn't stand her. Why should this girl, just a mere child, be treated like a treasure by the master, even more so than his own son?
Third Concubine had a precious son, Ye Zijun, and naturally felt resentful. So, whenever she saw the little girl who was the apple of the master's eye, she couldn't help but throw a few barbs.
Ye Yuvyuv's mind was too muddled to bother with Third Concubine, that chatterbox. In her past life, this woman was often used by others as a tool.
She ignored Third Concubine for another reason too: despite her sharp tongue, Third Concubine wasn't truly malicious. She was just a bit shallow and petty, traits stemming from her modest background.
The Third Concubine might not be as malicious as the Second, but she sure knows how to stir up jealousy. Ignoring her, the Third Concubine felt a bit awkward, huffed, and with a dramatic flair, turned and sashayed back upstairs.
Left in the living room were the Second, Fourth, and Fifth Concubines.
"Yuvyuv, where have you been these past few days? Everyone's been worried sick about you," the Second Concubine said, forcing a smile to hide the coldness in her eyes, as if the issue with the dowry had never happened. She approached with a feigned warmth, ready to inquire further.
Suddenly, there was the sound of hurried footsteps from upstairs.
"Yuvyuv!"
Her older sister, Ye Nianci, came rushing down the stairs. She dashed to the sofa and pulled Yuvyuv into a tight embrace, her voice filled with concern. "Where have you been? I asked Dad, but he wouldn't say anything. You had me worried sick, you know?"
Ye Nianci held Yuvyuv tightly, terrified that her sister might disappear again. Not seeing her sister these past few days had nearly driven her to despair, but no matter how much she pressed their father, he simply reassured her that Yuvyuv would return when she was ready.
