C55 Looking for the Second Concubine Who Felt Uncomfortable!

Yuvyuv quickly covered the hundred-dollar bill with her small hands, worried someone might take it. She called out to her sister, "I need to talk to you. Let's go upstairs," and hurried off.

Her expression was just like their dad's when he was trying to avoid someone.

Nianci exchanged a glance with the Third Concubine, and they both couldn't help but laugh.

Nianci shook her head, thinking her sister had inherited their dad's cautious and frugal nature.

Upstairs.

Nianci gently pushed open the door and entered Yuvyuv's room with a warm smile. "Yuvyuv, what's up? School starts in ten days, and I need to report to the school office for my new job."

"The school office? Didn't you just graduate from the women's teachers' college this year? Why are you going back to school?" Yuvyuv asked, taking her sister's hand and leading her to her room. "Let's talk there."

As they walked, Yuvyuv was curious about why her sister was going back to school and was also planning her own agenda.

"You little rascal, always thinking about fun. Did you forget what I told you? I'm not planning to study abroad. I don't like the idea of being in a foreign country. So, after discussing it with Dad, I've decided to teach at a school here."

Nianci smiled gently, giving her sister's soft hand a light tap, a playful scold for not paying attention earlier.

"Really, you're not going abroad?" Yuvyuv exclaimed, stopping in her tracks, her big eyes blinking rapidly in surprise.

She thought about how the Second Concubine's eldest daughter and the Fourth Concubine's eldest son were both studying overseas. Should she try to persuade her sister? After all, studying abroad, no matter the outcome, would surely broaden her horizons.

She worried about her older sister, who was always gentle and never argued with others. She feared her sister might be bullied by classmates once she went abroad.

As she pondered, she suddenly glanced up and caught a glimpse of what looked like the corner of a dress disappearing around the stairway. Her eyes narrowed with suspicion. She quickly signaled to her sister and pulled her into her sister's room.

"Shh, don't make a sound," she whispered.

She pushed her sister behind her, then pressed her ear against the door, her small frame tense and alert like a watchful leopard.

Her sudden fierceness startled her sister, Nianci. Watching her sister's tense posture and cold expression, Nianci was reminded of a terrifying incident on the train that day. Her sister had been just as tense, exuding a chilling aura, even more intense than now.

That cold, bloodthirsty air was not something an eighteen-year-old should possess. Nianci wondered how her sister had become so wary and on edge over the slightest things, as if facing a great enemy.

Nianci fell into deep thought.

Suddenly, there was a loud "bang!" as the door, which had been slightly ajar, was violently pushed open from the inside.

The force sent the door crashing outward, followed by a sharp, startled scream from a woman, "Ah!"

Nianci jumped in fright and hesitated, "Is that the Second Concubine?"

She didn't have time to wonder why the Second Concubine was outside her room. She quickly turned to her sister, worried, "Yuvyuv, are you okay?"

Nianci rushed to her sister, shielding her with her arms, afraid that the impact might have hurt her sister's small, fragile frame.

"Hey, sis, don't worry about me. Look, the real troublemakers are outside," Yuvyuv gave her sister a mischievous glance and led her out the door.

Yuvyuv raised an eyebrow, her fair face adorned with a stunning smile, though her amber eyes glinted with mischief. "Oh, isn't this the Second Madam? What happened to you?"

Before the Second Madam could respond with her pained expression, Yuvyuv chuckled, "Tsk tsk, you're not exactly young anymore. How do you manage to walk right into a door? Isn't it a bit early in the day to be causing trouble for yourself?"

She clicked her tongue with a mock-serious expression, looking every bit like a stern little teacher, which almost made her sister, Nianci, burst out laughing.

Even if Nianci didn't fully grasp the situation, the sarcasm in her sister's words revealed enough of the truth. The Second Madam had likely been eavesdropping outside their door, trying to listen in on their conversation.

Such a petty act made Nianci, usually gentle and calm, show a hint of anger. She spoke firmly, "Second Madam, why were you outside my room without reason?"

The Second Madam was both in pain and flustered. Not only had she failed to eavesdrop, but she was also mocked by these two young troublemakers. Especially Yuvyuv, who seemed to have a sixth sense for her schemes ever since she and her sister returned safely from the city. Every time the Second Madam tried to plot something, Yuvyuv seemed to thwart her efforts effortlessly, leaving her frustrated and exhausted.

She originally intended to go upstairs and persuade that stubborn girl to attend the new masquerade ball tonight. But as she peeked upstairs, she saw the little brat whispering secretively with her older sister. She deliberately stopped, hoping to eavesdrop on what the two were plotting.

The Second Wife thought to herself, hoping they weren't scheming against her. But before she could hear anything, the little brat slammed the door into her.

"Good grief, that hurt!" she thought, rubbing her shoulder, aching from both new and old injuries. She was furious with the sisters but dared not show it. When Ye Nianci questioned her sternly, she lowered her eyes and quickly pulled out the invitation that Ye Yuvyuv had tossed back at her last night.

With a slightly resentful tone, she said, "I came to find you for a reason. Here's the invitation someone sent for you two. I gave it to Yuvyuv last night, but she threw it back at me."

She glared at Ye Yuvyuv, then turned to Ye Nianci with a sigh, "You know, Nianci, I'm just a woman, not like you young girls who love to have fun. This is clearly a party for your age group. How could I possibly go?"

With that, she handed the invitation to Ye Nianci and waved her hand dismissively, unable to hide her irritation, "Take it back. Whether you and Yuvyuv go or not is up to you. I'm not getting involved. I don't need to be insulted and end up hurt."

With a face full of resentment, the Second Wife left. Ye Yuvyuv watched her go downstairs, a cold glint flashing in her eyes. The look was so fleeting that when her older sister Ye Nianci caught it, she thought she might have imagined it.

Her younger sister has always been playful and innocent. Though a bit mischievous, she has a pure heart and never harbors ill intentions. Yet, just now, she seemed to catch a glimpse of something cold in her sister's bright eyes. That look was icy, like a sharp blade chilled to the core, ready to strike and cause harm at any moment.
