C58 Miss Yuvyuv Was so Scary!
She shamelessly clung to her older sister, almost on the verge of tears. "Sis, can we talk about this? Just a quick chat."
Ye Nianci remained silent.
Her little sister was acting just like she did as a kid, and Nianci was at a loss. With a sigh, she hugged the money box tightly, pressing her lips together, refusing to speak. She knew that if she did, she'd give in. She was as soft-hearted with her sister as their father had been, unable to be truly stern with her.
So, Ye Yuvyuv persisted, wearing down her sister for nearly an hour. Her throat was dry, and her voice was nearly gone when her sister finally relented. Nianci handed over the visible portion of the dowry for Yuvyuv to handle. Then, ignoring anything else Yuvyuv might say, Nianci turned cold and pushed her out.
"Bang!" The door shut with a click, and the lock turned.
Yuvyuv whimpered, "Sis, you don't care about me anymore."
Nianci replied, "Agreeing with you would only harm you."
"Sis!" Yuvyuv pleaded from the other side of the door.
"I'm going to sleep," Nianci said.
Yuvyuv's eyes widened in disbelief, staring at the door. "Sis, you've changed. You even learned to lie. Didn't you just say you had to report to school?"
Caught in her lie, Nianci was so angry she almost opened the door to give her sister a piece of her mind—this mischievous girl.
At the Ye household, six in the evening, Yuvyuv rummaged through her closet until she found a deep red dress. The wrinkles showed it had been buried for a long time. She never liked wearing dresses—not for any particular reason, but because she was naturally lively and loved to move. There were always troublemakers who liked to provoke her, and wearing a dress made it hard to fight back—meaning she couldn't throw punches as easily.
In her wardrobe, there were hardly any dresses; most of her clothes were stylish riding pants, shirts, and fitted vests that allowed for easy movement. The purple-red dress she held was something she remembered buying a couple of years ago when she was just fifteen. Now, at eighteen, she had grown quite a bit taller.
Yuvyuv picked up the slightly wrinkled dress and looked at herself in the full-length mirror. "What a shame, it's too short now," she sighed, raising an eyebrow before tossing the dress aside. She opened the door and called for Xiaoju, her maid, to tidy up the mess of clothes she had made.
Xiaoju was her personal maid, having been with the family since she was very young, just a year or two younger than Yuvyuv. The two shared a good bond. Xiaoju had been chosen by Yuvyuv's beautiful mother, who had a discerning eye for selecting servants, given her own distinguished background. Despite sometimes being a bit scatterbrained, Xiaoju was loyal and diligent, always completing tasks to the best of her ability, unlike some other maids who might shirk their duties.
"Miss, are you going out tonight?" Xiaoju asked with a smile as she tidied the clothes scattered on the bed, watching Yuvyuv quickly pack something into her handbag. Noticing that Yuvyuv hadn't picked an outfit for the evening, Xiaoju suggested, "Miss, I heard from Xiaotao that there's a new, very fashionable boutique that just opened up in the F Country Leased Territory. They say the clothes are designed by some French designer and look amazing."
Xiaoju's limited experience made her stumble over some words, which came out a bit amusingly.
Yuvyuv was amused and walked over to pinch Xiaoju's chubby cheeks, laughing, "Yes, I'm a designer. Our little Xiaoju is so adorable. I know, I'll go check it out in a bit, and I'll take you with me."
Xiaoju's words reminded Yuvyuv of someone she had almost forgotten—Xiaotao. Xiaotao was the maid she had used when her mother's dowry went missing. She served the Second Concubine and had tried to seduce her father in the past. She was a restless maid with a disloyal heart.
Yuvyuv recalled that when she used Xiaotao, she had promised to bring her over from the Second Concubine's side. Some things happened later, and she had forgotten about it. Yuvyuv's eyes showed a hint of contemplation.
At this moment, Xiaoju's eyes widened in disbelief as she exclaimed, "Miss, you're really taking me out to the French Concession? Really?"
"Yes, when have I ever gone back on my word?" Yuvyuv, who had been looking down slightly, was amused again by Xiaoju's excited, slightly stammering voice.
Feeling in a better mood, she clapped her hands and smiled, "Hurry up and change into something nice. We're leaving now."
"Now?" Xiaoju's face fell quickly, glancing at the bed, "But Miss, your clothes aren't sorted yet."
Yuvyuv couldn't help but laugh at the earnest girl in front of her, her stomach aching from amusement. She waved her hand, "Forget about the clothes for now. We can sort them out when we get back. Let's go."
"Yes, Miss," Xiaoju's eyes lit up immediately. She rubbed her hands sheepishly and quickly ran off to change.
Xiaoju thought happily that her Miss was so kind to her, taking her out to see the world. She had to choose something nice and clean to wear, so she wouldn't embarrass her Miss.
Yuvyuv watched as Little Ju ran off to change clothes, feeling a slight sting in her eyes. Since her return, so much had happened that she had inadvertently overlooked this girl. In her previous life, this girl had died for her.
Yuvyuv shut her eyes tightly, fighting back tears. She reminded herself not to be weak; having been given a second chance, she wouldn’t let those who truly cared for her suffer again.
Taking a deep breath, Yuvyuv composed herself as Little Ju returned, beaming with excitement. Yuvyuv smiled and gestured for her to follow.
Before leaving, Yuvyuv gave her older sister, Nianci, a stern warning. “No matter what the Second Concubine says tonight, don’t leave the house. Remember, no matter what she says, even if she uses me as an excuse, you must not go out.”
Yuvyuv’s face was more serious than ever, startling Nianci. When Nianci tried to question her, Yuvyuv laughed it off, saying she had plans to see a movie with friends and couldn’t be late. She quickly took Little Ju’s hand and headed out the door.
As she left, Yuvyuv was cautious. She instructed Shunzi, the servant, to keep a close watch on Nianci and not let her step outside. “If she insists on leaving, knock her out,” Yuvyuv said coldly, her expression turning icy as she leaned in towards Shunzi. “If you mess up what I’ve asked you to do, just see if I won’t skin you alive.”
Shunzi trembled with fear, nodding vigorously, his heart racing. “Miss Yuvyuv is terrifying, like she’s ready to kill,” he thought.
He remembered Miss Yuvyuv's instructions clearly and didn't dare to disobey. Otherwise, he might find himself in serious trouble.
