C85 Don't Scare Our Little Girl!

"What's the matter? Don't believe what I say?" Huo Lingxiao asked with a lazy smile.

To Ye Yuvyuv, that smile carried a hint of cool dissatisfaction. She quickly shook her head, forcing a smile and nodding. "Alright, thank you."

She felt like she was going against her own will.

"You're my woman. Helping you out with something is no big deal, so there's no need to be so formal with me," Huo Lingxiao said, scooping her up effortlessly. As the car came to a stop, he didn't wait for her to get out on her own but carried her out in his arms.

"Put me down! I can walk by myself," Ye Yuvyuv protested, her cheeks flushed with embarrassment, worried that Elder Qian might see them.

Huo Lingxiao glanced down at the little woman in his arms, noticing her blushing face. In a rare moment of good humor, he obliged, "Alright," and set her down.

Ye Yuvyuv let out a small sigh of relief, her nerves calming slightly.

They saw the aide had already run ahead to knock on the door. In no time, Elder Qian poked his head out, and upon seeing Ye Yuvyuv, his face turned dark.

Elder Qian swung the gate open, pointing inside the yard, and shouted angrily at Ye Yuvyuv, "You little troublemaker, get those two little pests of yours out of here!"

Ye Yuvyuv was taken aback. What was up with Elder Qian? He looked furious. He wasn't that old, just in his fifties, but his face was red, and he seemed ready to pick a fight. She hoped he wouldn't get too worked up and make himself sick.

"You still standing there? Hurry up and get those little white troublemakers out of here! If you don't, I'll cook them up for dinner!" Elder Qian yelled again, seeing Ye Yuvyuv still frozen in place.

With that shout, Ye Yuvyuv seemed to finally understand what was going on.

She hoped that Little White and Little Black hadn’t caused any trouble while she was away. But when she followed Elder Qian, who was almost hopping mad, to the backyard where herbs used to flourish, she was stunned by the chaos before her eyes.

“This, this, this... Elder Qian, did a thief break into your backyard, or was it... bandits?”

Ye Yuvyuv looked at the devastated herb garden, her brow twitching with disbelief. She didn’t dare ask Elder Qian if this was the work of Little White and Little Black. In her past life, this herb garden was Elder Qian’s pride and joy. It was filled with rare herbs, some of which even the big pharmacies in town didn’t have.

“A thief? Bandits? No thief or bandit would cause this much havoc!” Elder Qian was so angry his eyes bulged like a bull’s.

Ye Yuvyuv took a step back, bumping into the tall figure of a man behind her. The man’s cool voice came leisurely, addressing Elder Qian, “Uncle Qian, if the herbs are ruined, you can always replant them. Don’t scare our little lady here; she’s quite timid. If you frighten her, you won’t be able to compensate.”

With that, Ye Yuvyuv was pulled into Huo Lingxiao’s embrace. She was momentarily dumbfounded, trying to push away from the man behind her.

But then Elder Qian’s voice, bristling with indignation, cut through the air, “This girl? She’s been fearless since she was little, bold enough to take on the world, and you think my shouting will scare her?”

Elder Qian looked as if he’d just heard the most ridiculous thing in the world. Ye Yuvyuv watched his face turn red with anger and felt a pang of sympathy for him. She wanted to nod in agreement with Elder Qian, acknowledging that he wasn’t losing his mind; she had indeed been fearless since she was a child.

Behind her, a man's lazy voice drawled, "Oh, Elder Qian, you must be mistaken. My little girl here is quite timid and can't handle being yelled at. Whatever damage was done to the herb field, I'll cover the cost."

Yuvyuv suddenly felt like she had a powerful ally behind her.

Oh no, did this big bad guy take the wrong medicine? Why did it seem like he was protecting her?

Oh dear, but why did that make her even more nervous?

"You two little brats, I'm done talking to you. Hurry up and take those two little troublemakers and get out of here," Elder Qian said, waving them off in frustration.

A few minutes later.

Yuvyuv glanced at the back seat, where Little White and Little Black, now about a foot and a half tall, were eagerly wagging their tails and barking at her.

She still felt a bit dazed.

Wow, Elder Qian really did chase her out.

And along with her, the big bad guy, Huo Lingxiao, was also shown the door.

However, Huo Lingxiao, with his thick skin, seemed unfazed. Whether he had some real business or not, he boldly faced Elder Qian's threatening broom and headed back into the yard.

Yuvyuv worried, wondering if Huo Lingxiao would actually get chased out with a broom.

But then she quickly wanted to smack herself for being so silly.

On the way here, she had been bullied by that big bad guy, and yet here she was, worrying about him getting hit with a broom.

It would serve him right if he did; at least she wouldn't have to deal with his bullying anymore.

With a mischievous thought, she picked up Little White, stroking its long, snowy fur, feeling inexplicably happy.

But things didn't go as she hoped.

Soon enough, Huo Lingxiao emerged from the yard, completely unscathed, his military uniform as crisp as when he first got out of the car, without a single wrinkle.

Yuvyuv thought disappointedly, "Why doesn't Elder Qian give that jerk a broom?" Then she considered, Elder Qian is too timid, only ever yelling at her. Hmph. She grumbled about Elder Qian in her heart but didn't go too far. After all, in her past life, Elder Qian was essentially her mentor. There was no formal ceremony, but Yuvyuv knew the real reason he didn't officially take her as a disciple was to protect her. Elder Qian's true identity was the genuine heir of the Tang Sect, hiding from the powerful figures hunting him down. Taking on a new disciple would only put her in danger too. So, despite her complaints, Yuvyuv actually respected him a lot. Otherwise, in her past life, she wouldn't have treated him like family, caring for him.

"What are you thinking about, girl?" Huo Lingxiao's voice interrupted her thoughts. Yuvyuv snapped back to reality, smiling brightly as she shook her head. She noticed Huo Lingxiao standing by the car door, glaring disdainfully at the two little white wolf cubs occupying his seat. Realizing the situation, she felt a bit embarrassed and said, "Uh, Sixth Master, would you mind sitting in the front passenger seat?" She asked cautiously. Huo Lingxiao replied coldly, "You want me to give up my seat for two little beasts?"
