C14 Enter the Hr Department
"Everyone, please settle down." Ms. Yang clapped her hands, addressing the entire HR department. "This is your new colleague, Tong Fu. I hope you all get along well."
The HR department paused for a moment, then applauded to welcome her.
The HR manager, Lee Li, heard the commotion outside and quickly came out. "Vice Director Yang, what brings you here personally? We could have handled this."
"It's no trouble. Miss Tong Fu just came from the CEO's office, so I brought her along. She's exceptionally talented, with a strong background and impressive education. I trust you'll find her a suitable position in HR. That's all from me; you can take her through the onboarding process now." With that, Ms. Yang left.
Lee Li glanced at Tong Fu, showing a hint of impatience. "We don't have any open positions in HR right now. Come with me to complete the paperwork, and I'll fill you in on what you need to know about the department later."
Having spent most of her time in college, Tong Fu was unfamiliar with corporate life. Though she had interned before, it was mostly running errands, and she hadn't learned much of value. Now, after finally completing her paperwork, she found there was no desk for her.
Lee Li, busy with other tasks, surveyed the department and pointed to a spot in the far corner. "Why don't you sit here for now? That spot's usually just for storage. Everyone's busy with their work, so they can't help you at the moment. You'll need to clear it out yourself, and once things settle down, we can..."
"Don't worry about it; I can handle it myself," Tong Fu said, watching the HR manager leave before she started tidying up her workspace.
By lunchtime, Tong Fu had finally finished cleaning her area. Just as she sat down to take a break, someone about her age stood in front of her.
"Hi, I'm Laura. I just became a full-time employee two months ago. Are you new here too? How about we grab lunch together?" Laura smiled at Tong Fu, hoping to strike up a friendship.
Tong Fu happily agreed, and the two went to have lunch. During their meal, Tong Fu learned that the HR department's work is generally quite relaxed. They just need to verify attendance for each department and calculate everyone's salary according to company policies. At the end of the month, they adjust for any deductions based on attendance and pass the details to the finance department.
Tong Fu had joined during the busiest time.
"There's no need to stress too much. Our department is pretty supportive and friendly. Everyone has their own tasks, and there's no pressure for performance metrics. Just do your best!" Laura encouraged Tong Fu with a smile.
"As a newcomer, I'm not sure what to expect next. Our manager seems quite impressive," Tong Fu admitted, feeling a bit anxious as she was still new to the corporate world.
"Don't worry, the manager just has a lot on their plate. You're probably going to be assigned to a team soon! If I'm not mistaken, you'll likely join my team. After all, besides the team leader, it's just me here. The other teams have three or four people."
After lunch, the HR department held a meeting to review this month's work and introduced Tong Fu.
"Tong Fu will be joining Luo Yue's team. Do your best, I believe in you!" Lee Li smiled at Tong Fu and then discussed the upcoming tasks for the HR department. "I'm not going to name names, but whichever team didn't meet the recruitment goals this month needs to step it up. Our HR department might be a bit more relaxed, but it's not a place for slackers. I want each of you to draft a recruitment plan and be ready to explain it at our meeting the day after tomorrow."
After the meeting, Tong Fu, with Luo Yue's help, started familiarizing herself with the various departments of the company. Together, they brainstormed how to develop their recruitment plan.
As the workday ended, Luo Yue and Tong Fu still hadn't finished their tasks, so they decided to continue working at a nearby café.
Joining them at the café was their team leader, Xu Ming.
"Today's coffee is on me!" Xu Ming said as he brought over the drinks. Looking at Tong Fu, he added, "I heard you graduated from a prestigious school! Plus, being personally brought in by the CEO's secretary must mean you have some connections, right?"
"Oh, I just got introduced to this company by a friend. I’m still getting the hang of things here. Could you fill me in a bit more?"
"Sure thing! Let me give you the rundown. Our team works hard to meet our goals, and we tackle challenges together. My dream is to become the HR Manager someday, and if a better opportunity comes along, I might switch companies. What about you, Tong Fu?" Luo Yue said enthusiastically, as if life was full of promise.
Tong Fu paused, realizing she had always assumed she’d take over her father’s company and never considered other paths. Now, without a clear goal, she wasn’t sure what to say.
"My biggest dream is to start my own company!" Tong Fu chuckled softly. "But right now, I don’t think I have what it takes. After all, I’m just an employee at the moment."
Moreover, she felt she didn’t even have personal freedom now.
"Don’t lose heart. Hard work pays off. Let me walk you through our company’s situation," Xu Ming said with a reassuring smile, helping Tong Fu with her report.
On her way home, Tong Fu didn’t join Fenng Yun and didn’t mention how she planned to get back. She wandered the streets for a while and then strolled through the park.
For some reason, Tong Fu felt like a wandering soul, without a place to call her own.
She absentmindedly followed a man, and absentmindedly began her career again.
She sat on a park bench, sighing helplessly, her face full of worry.
Mao Jiarong happened to be jogging in the park and spotted Tong Fu from afar, but he wasn't sure it was her. It wasn't until he got closer that he confirmed it was indeed Tong Fu sitting there.
"Well, well, if it isn't the lovely Tong Fu! What brings you here?" Mao Jiarong handed her a bottle of water and asked, "Not feeling too great?"
"Mr. Mao, it's you!" Tong Fu smiled faintly as she took the water. "Thanks. It's nothing really, I just didn't feel like going back yet. I wanted some fresh air."
"Ah, did something happen?"
