C8 Wait in the Study
Seeing her gritting her teeth, he found it amusing and grabbed her arm. "Miss Tong, do you really have any other choice?"
She didn't.
"So, when exactly do you plan on helping me? I can't just wait forever," she said, her tone softening, on the verge of tears.
He gently touched her cheek. "That's much better."
Even though Tong Fu was quite upset, she didn't dare say anything. It seemed all men were the same, preferring women who acted sweet and vulnerable. If that's what it took, she'd play the part a few more times to get him to help her with her revenge. Once that was done, she could leave him.
When they arrived at the house, she tried to be nice. "How about I help you with a bath?"
It was the most straightforward way to please him.
"No, thanks," Fenng Yun replied, uninterested, and headed upstairs on his own.
Tong Fu pouted, feeling a bit frustrated as she watched him, unsure of what to do next.
"You should go get some rest now. I'll arrange for you to start working at the company soon," Fenng Yun said before disappearing into his room.
Work? Well, she was in her senior year of college, so she needed to find a decent job. But given her current situation, where could she possibly go? She had thought her father would at least leave the company to her, but now...
Fine, going to work is going to work. At least I won't have to stay here every day!
Tong Fu thought to herself as she headed back to her room to sleep. She browsed through various job listings and even checked out some articles on how to please a man, trying to broaden her horizons. Having been raised with traditional values, she really didn’t understand much about relationships.
Some of the images on the website made her blush and her heart race, and she instinctively covered her face in embarrassment.
“What’s this? Are you seriously looking into this stuff now?” Fenng Yun leaned over, glancing at what she was reading, and chuckled softly. “Looks like you’re really embracing your role.”
“Huh?” Tong Fu looked up quickly and shut her laptop. “No, I wasn’t looking at anything! I’m just trying to find a job, checking out job sites!”
“Job sites?” Fenng Yun chuckled, gently pushing Tong Fu back onto the bed, observing her flushed face. “Well, as long as you keep me happy, I’ll make sure you get your revenge.”
“You better keep your word! Don’t trick me!” Tong Fu’s voice grew softer as she looked at Fenng Yun, her heart beating faster, feeling increasingly nervous. “Are you really going to get me a job at the company?”
“Yeah, you think I’m lying?” Fenng Yun laughed, sitting on the edge of the bed, looking at Tong Fu. “You’ll work at one of my branch companies, learn something useful. Also, since you’re going to be my partner, you need to be aware of your role. I have to go out of town for business for three days, so prepare yourself. Once I’m back, I’ll set everything up for you.”
"Okay, I understand," Tong Fu agreed obediently. Seeing Fenng Yun getting ready to leave, she quietly asked, "Aren't you staying with me tonight?"
"Tonight?" Fenng Yun glanced around the room, chuckled softly, and gently lifted her chin. Leaning close to her ear, he said, "I have work to do tonight, so you'll have to sleep on your own. But if you can't sleep, you're welcome to come keep me company."
Keep him company? In the study?
Tong Fu blinked and shook her head. "I think I'll just stay in the room and watch something on my laptop."
Fenng Yun didn't respond and left the room.
While browsing job listings online, Tong Fu lost track of time, and before she knew it, it was already midnight.
She grabbed her water cup and stepped out to the living room to refill it. As she passed by Fenng Yun's study, she noticed the light was still on.
"Is he still working this late?" Tong Fu wondered, standing by the door with her cup in hand.
She saw Fenng Yun sitting at his computer, occasionally typing and sometimes frowning in thought. His focused expression was quite captivating.
Quietly, she went downstairs to get some water and made a cup of coffee for him. She brought it into the study.
"Hope I'm not interrupting," Tong Fu said, placing the coffee in front of Fenng Yun. "I used to work at a coffee shop during college, so I'm pretty good at making this kind. Would you like to try it?"
Fenng Yun took the coffee and glanced at the time. "It's past midnight, and you're still up? What are you doing in your room?"
"Um..." Tong Fu hesitated under Fenng Yun's questioning. "I was just looking at some job listings. I can find a job myself; I don't want to trouble you."
"It's not trouble. You going out to find a job would be more of a hassle for me," Fenng Yun sighed. "Don't stay up this late again."
"Got it. I won't do it again. Don't be mad, okay?" Tong Fu tried to sound playful, but it came out awkward.
"Alright, if there's nothing else, go to bed. Don't just stand here," Fenng Yun ordered with a frown.
"Can I stay and help you?" Tong Fu offered.
Fenng Yun put down the papers he was holding and rubbed his temples. "Fine, make these documents digital for me, and create a PowerPoint presentation based on this information. Can you handle that?"
If Fenng Yun remembered correctly, Tong Fu was still in her senior year of college and hadn't entered the workforce yet, so how could she know how to do this?
"Sure, I can do it." Tong Fu happily sat down, grabbed her laptop from her room, and started inputting all the data to work on the presentation.
Around two in the morning, Tong Fu fell asleep on the couch.
Fenng Yun sighed softly, placing the laptop on the table and carrying Tong Fu back to her room. Seeing the injuries on her wrist, he couldn't help but sigh again. "What a reckless woman, resorting to such extreme measures," he thought. As his fiancée, she couldn't afford to have any issues, especially since she still had some value to him.
Returning to the study, Fenng Yun initially intended to put the laptop back in Tong Fu's room but was taken aback by her data analysis and presentation. They were flawless, with ideas even he and his company hadn't considered. This surprised him; for someone her age to produce such work was truly remarkable.
Fenng Yun copied all the electronic files onto a flash drive before returning the laptop to Tong Fu's room.
The next morning, Tong Fu turned off her phone alarm and glanced at the clock. It was already ten o'clock! "Wow, I stayed up too late last night. I'm really exhausted," she muttered, rubbing her eyes. Suddenly, she remembered, "Wait, wasn't I in the study last night? How did I end up back in my room?"
"Miss Tong, Director Fenng has already left on a business trip. It's time for your breakfast."
