C9 See Your Best Friend
"Alright, I got it," Tong Fu said as she got out of bed.
While having breakfast, Tong Fu was contemplating how to spend the next few days when she unexpectedly received a call from her best friend, Liao Wenn.
The housekeeper, overhearing Tong Fu's plans to go out, chimed in, "Miss Tong, Director Fenng would prefer if you didn't leave the house unnecessarily. Could you please not make it difficult for us?"
"I'm just going out to chat with my friend, nothing more. I'll be back on time, don't worry. After all, Fenng Yun did say I have to call him every night to report my whereabouts," Tong Fu replied with a hint of resignation, glancing at the housekeeper beside her. "So, can I go out?"
"Please hold on, I'll check with Director Fenng."
A moment later, the housekeeper returned to inform her that she could go out, but she must be back by 9 PM.
Tong Fu finally breathed a sigh of relief, grabbed her bag, and headed out to meet Liao Wenn.
At the usual café they frequented, Liao Wenn had been waiting for quite some time.
"Liao Wenn, didn't you say you were starting an internship a few days ago? Is it over already?" Tong Fu asked with a smile as she sat down and ordered a drink.
"It's over, but I haven't found a job yet! Tong Fu, I've heard some things recently. You didn't really get sent to the Fenng family, did you?" Liao Wenn was someone Tong Fu had known for a long time, and they had always been close.
Back in middle school, they attended the same school. By coincidence, they both got into the same college and even majored in the same subject.
Their bond is not just like sisters; it's even stronger.
"Well... how should I put it? First of all, Fenng Yun doesn't have any health issues, and our engagement was arranged by our parents. Besides, Fenng Yun isn't really looking to get married right now. We're more like dating partners!" Tong Fu explained, trying to reassure Liao Wenn and clarify her relationship with Fenng Yun. After all, Fenng Yun doesn't seem to have a steady girlfriend at the moment.
"That's good to hear. I thought something serious was going on! Fenng Yun seems like a decent person, and you both come from similar backgrounds. But honestly, as a daughter from a wealthy family, you don't really need to work, do you? I'm so envious!"
Envious of what? Envious that because of her father, she ended up as Fenng Yun's lover? Tong Fu felt a pang of discomfort but kept it to herself.
As for Liao Wenn, she had already contacted an advertising company, and things seemed promising. Tong Fu was also preparing to start work, so they decided to go shopping together to relax a bit.
Around eight in the evening, Tong Fu returned home, carrying a lot of new purchases. The housekeeper noticed and reported everything to her.
"Tong Fu, there's a credit card in your nightstand. Use it," Fenng Yun instructed over the phone.
"No need, I've saved up some money, and it's enough for now. Once I start working, I'll earn my own salary," Tong Fu replied naively.
"Salary? You're working for me, why do you need a salary? Take that card and buy yourself some high-end clothes. Don't let people at the company think you're a beggar."
A beggar?
Tong Fu felt frustrated as she looked at the clothes she had bought. They weren't designer brands, but each piece was beautiful, and she liked them. Tong Fu's mother had always been frugal, and so was Tong Fu. She never saw much difference between wearing clothes that cost hundreds and those that cost thousands.
She put the secondary card away, washed up, and went to bed.
She thought she could relax and clear her mind the next day, but unexpectedly, Tong Haoyuan called.
At that moment, Tong Fu was in her room browsing online, contemplating how life would be after seeking revenge. She stared at the phone number on the screen, unsure whether to answer.
After all, he was still her father. Despite his lack of kindness, as a daughter, she couldn't be so heartless.
"Hello, Director Tong," Tong Fu said coldly.
"Tong Fu, you're something else. Your dad only sent you to Fenng Yun for your own good. Marrying a man like him is a dream for many women! And here you are, complaining!"
Strangely, it wasn't her father's voice on the other end, but that of another woman.
A wave of disgust washed over Tong Fu, and she sneered, "Oh, it's you, the homewrecker! What do you want?"
"Tong Fu, is that any way to talk to your aunt?" Tong Haoyuan stood nearby, his phone on speaker.
"Director Tong, I made myself clear last time. Since you've cut ties with me, you shouldn't be calling now!" Tong Fu was ready to hang up.
"Wait! I just want to ask you to come home, okay? I need to explain what happened last time," Tong Haoyuan's voice softened, almost pleading.
Hearing her father beg, Tong Fu's heart softened.
Dad, if only you'd put on a better act back then, maybe I wouldn't be so angry now. That woman, Qiao Zi, drove Mom away, and now she's here with her daughter?
These thoughts stirred in Tong Fu, leaving her unsettled. "I'm not going!"
"This dinner is to give you an explanation. I'll be waiting for you at noon today, along with your Aunt Qiao Zi!"
After hanging up, Tong Fu couldn't calm down. Should she go or not? It was a dilemma.
Their relationship had ended, and any debt was settled. When Tong Haoyuan offered two million dollars, it broke Tong Fu's heart, let alone everything else. Yet, deep down, she wanted to give him another chance.
Fine, I'll go and see what excuses they come up with.
At that moment, she was at the bar.
Mao Jiarong was sitting at the bar, sipping his drink while having his staff organize last night's sales figures.
"Hey, isn't this the young lady herself? What brings you here?" Mao Jiarong poured a drink and slid it over to Mao Tongtong. "What's up with you? You look pretty upset."
"It's all because of that Tong Fu. She's something else. I really underestimated her."
"You should stay out of this. I think Fenng Yun is serious about marrying her. Besides, have you ever seen Fenng Yun so taken with anyone before?" Mao Jiarong took a sip of his drink. "You're just looking for trouble. With your charm, you could have anyone you want."
"What do you know? I just like Fenng Yun."
Before coming to the bar, Mao Tongtong had already found out that Fenng Yun was out of town on a business trip.
With a slight smile, Mao Tongtong turned to Mao Jiarong and said, "Hey, can you do me a favor?"
"What kind of favor?"
A moment later, Tong Fu appeared at the bar entrance. She had received a call from Mao Tongtong, saying there was something important about Fenng Yun that needed discussing.
