C14 You Tried to Escape
Jiang Jingxi woke up ten minutes later to find the hospital room empty. She lay there for a while, piecing together what had happened without anyone needing to explain. Her body felt weak and drained, so she drifted back to sleep.
When she opened her eyes again, it was early the next morning. The sound of knocking had woken her.
"Come in," Jiang Jingxi said in a low voice.
A man in a training outfit entered, smiling slightly when he saw she was awake. "Miss Jiang, you're finally awake!" he said, his tone carrying a hint of urgency.
Jiang Jingxi looked at him, noticing he was alone, and frowned slightly. Though she had fainted last night, she vaguely remembered someone carrying her to the hospital. She couldn't be sure if it was the person she suspected, but since the incident happened at the station, it made sense for him to come by, right?
With that thought, Jiang Jingxi instinctively asked, "Where's Lu Tineyuv?"
Zhang Xingyang, unfazed by her directness in using the boss's name, respectfully replied, "The boss had something to attend to and left, but he asked me to wait here until you woke up and to pass on a message."
"What message?" Jiang Jingxi's eyes showed a hint of caution.
"The boss said he would give you a fair chance to defeat him."
"A chance?" Jiang Jingxi frowned instinctively. "What does that mean?"
Zhang Xingyang smiled sheepishly, scratching the back of his head with a touch of embarrassment. "I'm just a junior trainee, so I don't really know what the boss means. But he said you'll understand when you get there."
Get there? To the station?
Jiang Jingxi immediately frowned, resisting the idea. "Do I have to go?"
As soon as she said that, the man, who had been friendly, frowned and looked troubled. "The boss said you must go. He said you can't escape his grasp!"
Jiang Jingxi felt exasperated. She was already well acquainted with the man's shameless confidence.
So, hearing those words now wasn't surprising at all. She was fuming inside, feeling quite irritated, her brows furrowed as she said directly, "Alright then, you go out first. I need to change."
"Okay," Zhang Xingyang agreed readily.
She watched him turn and leave. With a click, the door closed.
Almost instantly, Jingxi jumped up from the bed, ran to the window, and looked down. Third floor. Phew!
Without delay, she jumped out the window. Holding onto the drainpipe, she easily landed on the ground.
Quickly, she ran to the street and hailed a cab. Through the rearview mirror, Jingxi watched the hospital building fade into the distance, a slow smile spreading across her face.
Thinking they could drag her back again? No way!
Having been fooled by that jerk twice, Jingxi was determined not to give him a third chance!
Imagining Lu Tineyuv's furious reaction when he discovered she was gone, Jingxi felt incredibly satisfied, her spirits lifted!
"Miss, where to?" the driver asked.
Jingxi's eyes flickered at the driver's question. Deciding it was best not to go home yet, she gave the address of her friend, Muh Anqiao.
"Got it!" the driver responded.
Luckily, this was the right route.
So he immediately picked up speed.
Just then, Jingxi suddenly felt a warm sensation in her abdomen. Oh no!
In her rush to escape, she'd forgotten about this.
But, even through her pants, she could feel the pad was still there. It had been on all night though...
Jingxi frowned, thinking she'd soon be at Anqiao's place, she decided to endure it.
However, ten minutes later, the taxi came to a sudden stop. There was a traffic jam ahead.
Jingxi waited for a while, seeing the car barely move, she finally couldn't help but ask, "What's going on up there?"
The driver glanced at the rearview mirror, "I don't know, maybe there was an accident, or it's traffic control. This road's been checked several times recently."
"Why am I so unlucky?" Jingxi frowned, glancing back to see the traffic jam behind her. They were stuck, unable to move an inch. Normally, she'd just get out and walk, but now...
First, she wasn't in the best shape physically. Second, she was flat broke and didn't even have her phone. She had planned to have Anqiao cover the cab fare once she got there. So, without any money, she couldn't just hop out halfway.
Jingxi took a deep breath, resigning herself to wait quietly. Thankfully, the car soon started moving again. A police officer passed by, and the driver leaned out to ask what was going on. It turned out there was a traffic control in place.
Looking ahead, Jingxi saw they were almost there and finally felt a bit relieved. But her relief was short-lived. Just three minutes later, she spotted a line of green SUVs at a checkpoint up ahead. Her eyes swept over the unmistakable camouflage vehicles, and a sense of unease crept in.
Finally, they reached the checkpoint. To her surprise, two trainees in uniform were conducting the checks. One of them glanced at the back seat, then respectfully saluted her. "Miss Jiang, the boss has been waiting for you. Please come with me."
Jingxi was speechless.
The driver in front shuddered, his expression shifting to one of alarm as he looked at her. "Miss, you haven't done anything wrong, have you?"
Jingxi had no words. She glanced at the trainer outside the car and reluctantly got out. With so many eyes on her, even if she wanted to run, she couldn't do it in front of everyone. Otherwise, people who didn't know the situation might think she was a criminal.
Although she was fine, her father, Mr. Jiang, had a special status. If word got out, it would be embarrassing for him. With that in mind, Jingxi took a deep breath and was about to step forward when she suddenly thought of something. She turned to the trainer beside her and asked, "Do you have any cash on you?"
The sudden question caught the person off guard, leaving them momentarily stunned.
A second later, they nodded, "Yes, I did."
Jingxi breathed a sigh of relief, gesturing towards the driver, "Could you cover the fare for me? I'll pay you back later."
With that, she walked forward. She didn't need anyone to guide her; she had already spotted the massive black vehicle parked behind the SUV.
Jingxi had never seen a car like this before. However, the sleek and formidable design immediately clued her into the owner's identity. There was no doubt—that's where she needed to go.
Sure enough, as Jingxi approached, someone promptly stepped forward to open the rear door for her.
Even before getting in, she could see the tall, imposing man seated inside. Standing outside the car, Jingxi could feel the cold aura emanating from him.
Could she really not get in?
