C19 You Are a Beast
As Wei Xiu withdrew his gaze, he noticed that the others hadn't reacted yet, so he quickly gave a signal. Someone caught on and immediately stood at attention. Within three seconds, everyone was back to their previous upright stance.
Zhao Liyuan glanced over and then stepped down to Jiang Jingxi. "Let me do it!" Jiang Jingxi said, taking the scissors from Zhao Liyuan's hand. She crouched down and swiftly cut off the excess pant legs. Holding the two cut-off pieces in one hand and the scissors in the other, she stood up and handed the scissors back to Zhao Liyuan with a grateful smile. "Thanks!"
Just as she finished speaking, a sharp voice suddenly rang out from above, "Thirty-kilometer armed cross-country run! You have three minutes to prepare. Timing starts now!" As soon as Lu Tingyuv's words ended, Zhao Liyuan, standing next to Jiang Jingxi, immediately shouted, "Right turn! Run—go!"
The trainers turned right in unison and started running. Seeing this, Jiang Jingxi didn't dare delay and quickly followed. Inside, she was cursing Lu Tingyuv, "Damn it! Starting with thirty kilometers! This guy is clearly out to get me!" She was fuming, but right now, what could she do? He was the boss. No matter how angry Jiang Jingxi was, she had to hold it in. But don't think this means she's scared.
While gathering her gear, Zhao Liyuan handed Jiang Jingxi her equipment and, noticing her frustrated expression, explained with a smile, "Our training schedule is planned in advance. So, the boss isn't targeting you specifically."
"You mean I'm just unlucky?" Jiang Jingxi raised an eyebrow.
"You could say that. It's just that the training is intense these days, and since you've been challenging the boss, he's probably not going to go easy on you. So, be prepared," Zhao Liyuan gently warned.
Jiang Jingxi understood. On the surface, he was giving her advice, but in reality, he was warning her not to go against Lu Tingyuv.
Otherwise, there'll be consequences.
"Thanks for the heads-up, Captain Zhao, but the grudge between us is beyond a simple apology. So why should I bother?" Jingxi scoffed.
Zhao Liyuan frowned. It was the first time he'd encountered such a stubborn woman, and her rebellious spirit surprised him. It reminded him so much of the boss. Maybe that's what attracted the boss to her?
Zhao Liyuan pondered for a moment, noticing Jingxi was already focused on her gear, clearly not wanting to continue the conversation. He understood and walked away.
...
Training commenced.
Jingxi stood at the back of the line, keeping up with the group. Her gear weighed almost as much as half her body weight. Long-distance running wasn't difficult for her, thanks to her father's rigorous training since childhood. But the weight of the gear was overwhelming, especially since it was the first day of her cycle, leaving her feeling weak and exhausted. Yet, seeing the SUV cruising alongside the team, she bit her lip and felt a surge of determination.
"She's going through a rough time right now, and you're pushing her like this? Is that okay?" Wei Xiu was also in the SUV. Technically, he shouldn't have been there, but given the 'special' circumstances today, he couldn't resist joining in.
Wei Xiu watched Jingxi running outside, while the Cold Yama King showed no reaction inside the vehicle. Finally, he couldn't hold back any longer.
Lu Tingyuv, who had been resting his eyes, opened them slowly at the sound of Wei Xiu's voice. His cold gaze shifted to him. "You feeling sorry for her?"
Wei Xiu was at a loss for words. "I..."
Before he could finish, Lu Tingyuv interrupted with a cold chuckle, a dangerous smile playing on his lips. "If you feel sorry for her, why don't you run in her place?"
"Got it! He didn't say a word!"
Wei Xiu rolled his eyes and glanced in the rearview mirror. What was meant to be a quick look turned into witnessing a startling scene. He watched as Jiang Jingxi's left foot tripped over her right, sending her tumbling forward.
"Damn!" Wei Xiu's heart skipped a beat. Instinctively, he grabbed Cold Yama King's arm and pointed, exclaiming, "She fell!"
Lu Tingyuv's eyes flashed with understanding. He looked up, his heart clenching, and shouted, "Stop the car!"
With a screech, Liu Qing slammed on the brakes. Almost as soon as the car halted, Lu Tingyuv dashed out, rushing to Jiang Jingxi's side.
"Hey..."
Wei Xiu opened his mouth to speak, but his gaze fell on Cold Yama King's retreating figure, and he suddenly chuckled. What a guy—always pretending not to care!
Jiang Jingxi felt only one thing throughout her entire body: pain. When she hit the ground with her backpack, it was like a ton of bricks. The impact made her feel as if her insides were shattered.
"Cough, cough..." She let out a soft cough and moved slightly, feeling the ache everywhere. Remembering that it was all because of someone, she gritted her teeth and cursed, "You jerk! One day, I'll make you wish you were never born!"
Just as she was about to get up...
"I'm always ready," Lu Tingyuv's cold, sharp voice came from above.
Jiang Jingxi froze for a moment, then quickly looked up, glaring at him. As she did, Lu Tingyuv withdrew his outstretched hand.
Good! She still had the energy to curse him, so she must be okay. Meeting Jiang Jingxi's angry gaze, Lu Tingyuv's face remained as cold and aloof as ever. He looked down at her, his eyes deep and dangerous, like a bottomless pit. "I can't wait to see how you plan to make me wish I were never born. But before that, you—"
With a drawn-out tone, Lu Tineyuv's smile vanished, replaced by a voice as cold as ice: "What are you doing? How do you manage to fall while running? Get up and catch up with your team!"
Jiang Jingxi was instantly furious, scrambling to her feet with a determined glare. "Are you some kind of beast?"
She really wanted to see what made this man tick.
"Haven't you heard? There's a nickname for everyone here," Lu Tineyuv retorted coolly, ignoring her anger completely.
Jiang Jingxi gritted her teeth, waiting for him to continue.
"Workhorse. Everyone here shares that title."
When Lu Tineyuv said those words, there was an inexplicable pride in his voice. He looked at her with an expressionless face, a cold smirk playing on his lips. "You should feel honored to be one of the workhorses."
