C107 The Crowd Tried to Persuade Him to Stay but It Was in Vain They Left the Team and Ran for Their
"Brother Bing," Sun Meng was all in, "I'll help you win over Qin Mengli and make her yours! Everyone's survival depends on you, and no one will stand in your way. Qin Mengli needs to face the consequences for her actions! I'm sure she won't refuse if it means staying alive. That way, you can put the past behind you and be with the woman you really like. What could be better than that?"
"Scram!" Tang Bing swatted Sun Meng on the head, "All you ever do is talk rubbish. How are we any different from those other survivor groups with that kind of talk? Plus, I have no interest in forcing someone who doesn't love me. It's pointless! If you keep up this nonsense, I'll throw you out myself!"
"Won't you reconsider?" Sun Meng clutched his arm, "Brother Bing, I mean it. If you stay, I'll be right there with you!"
"Enough!" Tang Bing let out a weary sigh, "We're done here. Please leave."
But Sun Meng, growing more desperate as he remained unswayed, pressed on, "Brother Bing, you say you won't force someone who doesn't love you, but what if it's someone who does?"
Tang Bing rose to his feet, seizing Sun Meng's wrist and yanking her from the bed to shove her towards the door, "Mengli and I are destined to be two parallel lines, never meant to intersect. Moreover, I don't want someone by my side who has ever harbored the thought of killing me. She was the first person I ever loved, or thought I loved. But her first love was Zhang Tao—and I'm the one who killed him. There's no future for us. Leave now! And stop suggesting such vile schemes; I refuse to stoop to that level!"
"Wait!" Sun Meng wrenched free from Tang Bing's grip and spun around to meet his gaze head-on, "I wasn't talking about her when I said someone loves you!"
"What?" Tang Bing was taken aback, locking eyes with her. Seeing her earnest look, he paused, then scoffed, "Don't tell me you're in love with me! We've only known each other for a few days. Do you take me for a toddler you can easily fool?"
"Why?" Sun Meng challenged, her voice tinged with disbelief. "People fall in love at first sight all the time! Why can't I be the one who loves you?"
"You'll say anything just to keep me around!" Tang Bing was at a loss for words, yet he spoke to her with deep sincerity, "Ms. Meng, this is going too far! Not only is this unfair to yourself, but I've been honest with you. My heart isn't open to anyone right now. Even if you're telling the truth, I'm sorry! I don't have feelings for you, and I can't reciprocate your affection! Moreover, I'm fed up with this team. I just want to live for myself!"
"Bing... I'm not deceiving you!" Sun Meng's grip on Tang Bing's left hand was gentle. "Ever since you rescued me in the hospital, and when you helped me leave, I've felt something special for you. We've been through so much together, and you've risked your life to protect us over and over, deepening these feelings. Now, I've come to realize that I truly can't be without you!"
"Can't be without me because you need my protection, is that it?" Tang Bing responded coolly. "I'll tell you this: depending on others is never as good as depending on yourself. Only by becoming strong can you live safely. Enough talk. I can see right through your little schemes. It's pointless!"
"Bing, I mean it!" Sun Meng's lips quivered slightly, "If you don't believe me, then... then maybe I should stay today?"
Upon hearing this, Tang Bing's brow furrowed as he scrutinized Sun Meng's gaze. She didn't flinch or look away but met his stare head-on. He paused, momentarily taken aback, wondering if she was actually serious.
But his decision was firm, unchangeable by anyone: "We've wasted enough words on this. Weren't you here to say farewell? So, goodbye."
With a heavy heart, he pushed Sun Meng out the door and firmly shut it behind her.
Standing outside the room, Sun Meng's eyes betrayed her frustration and a hint of sorrow.
With a heavy sigh, she descended the stairs to find the other four still gathered on the ground floor.
As Sun Meng emerged at the stairwell, Zhao Dagang quickly looked up and inquired, "Ms. Meng, what happened?"
Sun Meng shook her head, her gaze heavy with complexity as she glanced at Qin Mengli, "Forget it! Bing kicked me out!"
"What did you say to him? He wouldn't listen to a word?" Lin Leyan asked anxiously.
Sun Meng let out a sigh, pulled up a chair, and sat down, "I tried everything, even seduction, and I was ready for it. But Bing still sent me packing!"
"Was all that really necessary?" Lin Leyan's mouth fell open in shock from Sun Meng's revelation.
"Necessary?" Sun Meng shot Lin Leyan a scornful look and huffed, "I went all in and still couldn't make it work, couldn't keep Bing! It's gotten this serious, and it's all her fault! Qin Mengli, do you really want to doom us all? Why on earth would you want to kill Bing to get back at Zhang Tao? Have you lost your mind?"
Normally, Sun Meng and Qin Mengli were close, often referring to each other as sisters. But now, Sun Meng was livid with her.
Upon hearing this, Qin Mengli turned and gave Sun Meng a look, "I've been planning this from the start! If not for revenge, I would never have stayed by his side!"
"Fine! You've got guts!" Sun Meng stood up defiantly, "Then go ahead! Bing is leaving tomorrow. If you're set on killing him, now's your last chance! What are you waiting for? Go! If you're going to do it, let's all go down together!"
"Ms. Meng!" Zhao Dagang, seeing Sun Meng's sudden outburst of anger, quickly got to his feet to intervene, "Calm down! We're all frustrated right now. Arguing like this is pointless!"
"Whose fault is that? Would it have come to this if not for her? Because of her own selfish desires, she's willing to drag us all down with her?" Sun Meng pointed at Qin Mengli, her voice thick with fury.
"Yes, I confess!" Qin Mengli stood up, facing her squarely, "It's all my doing. I've failed everyone! Yes, Tang Bing has feelings for me and has been pursuing me for four years! It's my fault for being too soft-hearted and overly concerned about others' feelings, not rejecting him outright from the start. That's why he's clung to me all these years! I've squandered my own time and his, and I've led him on! All the blame lies with me!"
Zhang Tao was the first man I ever fell for. Everything about him—his appearance, his height, his personality—was exactly what I had envisioned in my ideal partner. When he showed interest in me, my joy was genuine, and I couldn't help but say yes! I had finally found someone I liked and was ready to push Tang Bing aside to experience a true romance. Even when Zhang Tao later let me down, could my affection for him just vanish so easily?
It was my first love, after all! Yet, Tang Bing brutally deceived him, luring him into a fire truck and burning him alive right before my eyes! Regardless of my disappointment or anger, that was still my first love! If Tang Bing could kill Zhang Tao over me, why shouldn't I be allowed to do the same for him?"
As Qin Mengli spoke, tears streamed down her face, and her roar stunned everyone around her.
She glanced at the group, her eyes finally resting on Sun Meng. "I joined this team driven by a desire to avenge my first love! Finding someone I truly liked was no small feat, so why did he have to treat me that way? Does his love for me justify murder? Then why can't I take action for the one I love? Are his emotions the only ones that count, while mine are worthless?"
