C35 He Entered the Police Station to Cremate the Zombies. He Searched Carefully and Found the Bluepr
"Be careful!" Tang Bing leaped into the interior of the police station's enclosure and steadied himself. Turning to Zhao Dagang, who was preparing to follow suit, he cautioned.
"No worries, I've jumped from higher places than this!" Zhao Dagang confidently landed and stood firm in front of Tang Bing.
"Good!" Tang Bing relaxed, relieved to see him land safely.
He knew that if Zhao Dagang were to sprain his ankle, he wasn't sure he could carry someone back to base—especially if they had to avoid zombie detection, which seemed highly unlikely.
"This police station is huge. Where do we start looking?" Zhao Dagang whispered.
"First, check all the doors and windows on that side to ensure they're locked," Tang Bing directed, "and keep your eyes peeled for any zombies that might be lurking. Don't let your guard down!"
"Got it!" With the fire axe in hand, Zhao Dagang quickly made his way toward the main entrance.
Once Zhao Dagang was out of sight, Tang Bing took up the fire axe and began to process the zombie dog carcasses.
[You have obtained rotten meat!]
[You have obtained animal skin!]
[You have obtained fat!]
[You have obtained bones!]
Each zombie dog yielded these four items. Rotten meat was a key ingredient for fertilizer, animal fur could be turned into leather, fat could be rendered into oil for torches and candles, and bones were useful for making glue.
All of these items were valuable, so he saved what he could.
While zombie corpses could also be disassembled, Tang Bing was hesitant to break down the remains of what were once humans. The idea of using their flesh and bones was even more distasteful. So, after scavenging, he chose to cremate them.
[You have obtained 1 bullet casing!]
[You have obtained 1 glass bottle!]
[You have obtained 3 bullet heads!]
[You have obtained 1 gunpowder!]
[You have obtained 1 bottle of clean water!]
...
Despite encountering dozens of uniformed zombies, the loot was disappointingly sparse. They found little to nothing on each one—no complete bullets or guns in sight.
Just as Tang Bing was growing frustrated, thinking they wouldn't find any firearms on them, his luck took a turn for the better.
You've obtained an ordinary pistol!
At last, some gear! He couldn't contain his excitement. Wasn't braving the dangers of the police station for this very reason?
He quickly glanced at the pistol's stats—definitely a step up from the fire axe!
The ordinary pistol boasted an attack of 18.3, a fundamental firearm that beginners could easily handle.
This standard-issue pistol already packed twice the punch of Tang Bing's finely-crafted fire axe! With six bullets in the chamber, it was a decent find.
Buoyed by his luck in finding the pistol, Tang Bing eagerly searched the remaining bodies. But his streak of good fortune didn't last; he mostly found bullets, casings, gunpowder, and various odds and ends.
By the time he got to the last zombie, he had all but given up hope.
You've obtained 21 pistol bullets!
You've obtained 10 shotgun shells!
You've obtained 7 nails!
Unexpectedly, the final corpse yielded 21 pistol bullets and 10 shotgun shells—a stroke of luck! The 7 nails, however, were a head-scratcher. Why on earth were they mixed with the ammo?
"Bing, I've double-checked everything!" Zhao Dagang reported as Tang Bing was dousing a body with gasoline. "All doors and windows are secure, no worries about zombies getting in! Plus, I've scoured every nook and cranny—no hidden zombies in sight!"
"Excellent!" Tang Bing gave a small nod. "Set these bodies ablaze. I'll scout out that area first. Once you're done here, come join me."
"Got it, I'm on it!" Zhao Dagang, ever the reliable one, promptly pulled out his lighter and set the zombie pile on fire.
Tang Bing then proceeded to the duty room, rifling through drawers with haste.
You've obtained 41 sheets of paper!
You've received 15 disposable plastic cups!
You've received a flashlight!
You've received five pieces of candy!
You've received an automatic pistol blueprint!
Paper was a useful material, and the plastic cups and flashlight would come in handy. The candy was barely passable as food, given its meager energy boost. The automatic pistol blueprint, however, was redundant for Tang Bing—he'd already mastered it. Deeming it superfluous, he broke it down into ten sheets of paper.
After rummaging through the duty room's desk, Tang Bing moved on to the adjacent lounge—a place where weary officers could catch a brief respite at night. In the nightstand drawer, he discovered a cell phone and over three hundred yuan in cash.
Finding little of interest in the duty room, Tang Bing headed straight for the nearby office area. The space was expansive, filled with numerous desks cluttered with documents and computers. While the computers could be stripped down for parts, Tang Bing wasn't currently interested. His attention was fixed on rifling through the office drawers.
You've received paper!
You've received beef jerky!
You've received potato chips!
You've received apple juice!
You've received grape juice!
You've received 14 pieces of plastic!
You've received five scraps of cloth!
You've received five bullet casings!
"..."
The drawers yielded an assortment of food, drinks, and various sundry materials. To Tang Bing's surprise, he quickly unearthed another blueprint!
You've obtained the Shotgun Crafting Guide!
The Shotgun Crafting Guide detailed a weapon with impressive power, its only downside being a slow reload speed.
Materials required for the shotgun barrel: 200 iron ore, 200 clay, with a smelting furnace as a prerequisite.
Materials for the shotgun stock: 5 iron bars, 20 pieces of wood, requiring a workbench.
Materials for the shotgun parts: 100 iron ore, 100 clay, with a smeltery as a prerequisite.
Materials for the shotgun magazine: 2 iron bars, 1 spring, 10 pieces of wood, needing a workbench.
Materials for the shotgun ammunition: 1 bullet head, 5 gunpowder, 1 shell casing, with a workbench as a prerequisite.
Having already unlocked the smelting furnace and crafted a workbench, Tang Bing was now capable of manufacturing both handguns and shotguns—a monumental advantage. Guns were undoubtedly more conducive to survival in this world than a fire axe. Even without the skills to produce high-quality firearms, and only able to assemble the most rudimentary guns and shotguns, it was still a far safer option than hand-to-hand combat.
Armed with a handgun and the Shotgun Crafting Guide, Tang Bing's excitement was palpable.
After scouring the entire office, all we found was a single guide on crafting a hunting rifle, along with an assortment of snacks, fruit juices, and various other materials.
"Bing!" I emerged from the office just as Zhao Dagang approached. Spotting me, he quickly reported, "I've set those corpses ablaze! By the time we're done searching, they should be nothing but ash!"
"Great!" I wasn't concerned; I had doused the bodies with plenty of gasoline beforehand, making the disposal a breeze.
"Where to next?" Zhao Dagang inquired.
"We've covered this whole floor," I gestured toward the staircase, "Let's check out the second floor."
"Got it!" Zhao Dagang agreed, eager. "I'll lead the way!"
I mused silently, You've already swept the area; what's there to lead? But I kept my thoughts to myself and trailed behind him up the stairs.
Reaching the second floor, I surveyed the scene. To one side was the Logistics Department, to the other, the Archives. I made a quick decision and directed Zhao Dagang, "I'll take Logistics, you hit the Archives. We split up and grab anything useful for survival—food, water, tools—whatever you can carry."
"Understood!" he nodded, ready to move. "I'm heading this way."
"Make it quick!" I said, gripping my fire axe and heading for the Logistics Department door.
I wasn't averse to using a gun, but with our limited ammo, it was best saved for emergencies. Besides, gunfire could draw the zombies' attention, and a horde at the police station's doorstep was the last thing we needed.
The Logistics door was ajar, and I slipped in without encountering any more zombies. Immediately, I spotted several keychains hanging on the wall, each marked with a number. My eyes then fell on a suspiciously sturdy iron door, shut tight.
Having pocketed numerous keys from the zombies earlier, I approached the iron door and meticulously examined the keyhole. One by one, I tried the keys until, with a satisfying "click," the lock gave way.
The iron door creaked open, and as Tang Bing peered inside, he nearly leapt with excitement.
Behind the door was a completely enclosed room filled with wooden crates. Each crate bore a number, matching the keys hanging on the wall.
"Guns!" The sight of the crates sent Tang Bing's eyes wide with exhilaration as he grabbed a key from the wall and dashed in, hastening to open the crate nearest to him.
You have obtained a pistol (standard).
You have obtained a pistol (fine).
You have acquired 50 pistol bullets!
You have acquired 100 pistol bullets!
To his amazement, he had found not just one but two pistols along with 150 bullets! Tang Bing was so thrilled he could barely contain himself, especially since one of the pistols was of fine quality!
He hurriedly unlocked the second crate.
You have received a pistol barrel (inferior)!
You have received a pistol magazine (standard)!
You have received a pistol magazine (damaged)!
You have received a firearm silencer (standard)!
The second crate was packed with firearm accessories, and to Tang Bing's delight, it included a silencer! With this stroke of luck, he wouldn't have to worry about the loud noise of the gun drawing the attention of zombies!
