C38 He Had to Climb over the Wall and Leave. a Fierce Beast Appeared in front of His House.
"Dagang, put these on!" Tang Bing beckoned Zhao Dagang over and handed him a gold necklace, a pair of gold bracelets, and two gold rings—a complete set of gold jewelry.
"Hey! Got it!" Zhao Dagang's eyes sparkled at the sight of the gold. He joyfully adorned himself with the pieces and asked, "Bing, how do I look?"
"Like a nouveau riche," Tang Bing bluntly stated.
"Hehe!" Zhao Dagang chuckled sheepishly, "Well, that's not too bad. I think being a nouveau riche has its perks."
"As long as it makes you happy," Tang Bing replied, a slight smile playing at the corners of his mouth.
"Bing, this jewelry feels heavy, but somehow I feel lighter wearing it. Is it just my imagination?" Zhao Dagang wondered aloud.
Tang Bing thought to himself that he had enhanced the jewelry with five points of agility; it would be odd if Zhao didn't feel lighter. But he chose not to reveal that secret. "Maybe you're just in such a good mood that you feel as light as a bird," he suggested.
"Hehe! That must be it," Zhao Dagang agreed, grinning broadly.
"Enough chit-chat! Let's finish searching this place and then head to the supermarket," Tang Bing said as he turned to approach another cabinet filled with loot. He pulled out the fire axe. No key? No problem. He'd simply use the axe to break the lock.
"Got it!" Zhao Dagang cheerfully got back to work.
Once Zhao Dagang was out of sight, Tang Bing, axe in hand, approached a cabinet and took a powerful swing at the metal surface.
The cabinet's thin iron exterior couldn't withstand the fire axe's blow, resulting in a long, indented gash.
He struck several more times, relentlessly, until the cabinet's surface was finally breached.
He moved from cabinet to cabinet, chopping away. It was a good thing the fire axe was a system-generated item, only losing some of its durability with each strike. Under normal circumstances, the axe would have been notched and useless by now!
Inside, more than half of the cabinets were empty, and the rest held only a smattering of stolen items. In comparison to the first large cabinet, the loot was somewhat meager.
All told, the haul amounted to 150,000 in cash, along with a smattering of watches, bracelets, rings, necklaces, and the like. The jewelry was mostly of inferior quality, lacking any special attributes. Its total value was just a fraction of the treasure trove in the large cabinet.
In the midst of searching, he stumbled upon a small infirmary nearby. It was a surprise to find that the police station was equipped with its own medical facility.
You've acquired 5 antibiotics!
You've acquired 7 painkillers!
You've acquired 3 blood bags!
You've acquired 2 bottles of alcohol!
You've acquired 11 splints!
You've acquired 4 beakers!
You've acquired 1 blood collection kit!
After a thorough search, he gathered a decent stockpile of medical supplies. Even though he already had plenty, one could never have too many life-saving resources.
Having combed through the rest of the rooms, his luck seemed to have run dry. Aside from a few odds and ends, no other valuable items turned up.
Zhao Dagang came across a large jug of purified water, two bags of sunflower seeds, and five packets of instant noodles, along with an assortment of trinkets. Unexpectedly, there was also a box of brand-new police uniforms!
"What do you want with these?" Tang Bing asked, bemused by the sight of the uniforms.
"Bing, they're so sharp!" Zhao Dagang exclaimed with excitement. "Just imagine how great we'd look all dressed in uniform! I've dreamed of being a cop since I was a kid, but it just wasn't in the cards for me. Now's my chance, and I really want to give it a shot! They've got every size imaginable; there's bound to be something that fits us!"
What could Tang Bing say in response? He couldn't deny Zhao Dagang this simple pleasure, could he? After a moment's thought, he said, "We can't possibly carry all this stuff to the supermarket. We'll have to head back to the factory first, stash everything, and then make our trip to the supermarket."
"Sounds good!" Zhao Dagang agreed enthusiastically. "Oh, and Bing, I've put all the things I found right here. What about the stuff you found?"
Tang Bing certainly couldn't admit that he'd stashed everything in a virtual backpack. He paused, then replied, "I don't bother with things that aren't useful. The firearms and jewelry we've got on hand—that's everything!"
"Oh," Zhao Dagang didn't suspect a thing, "Alright then! Let's head back to the factory. Bing, which one are you taking?"
"I'll grab this bucket of water. You handle the clothes and the rest!" Tang Bing effortlessly hoisted the heavy bucket of distilled water onto his shoulder.
"Got it!" Zhao Dagang packed most of the loot into a box and then hefted it with a grunt.
They made their way back to the backyard wall, one after the other, setting down their haul on the ground.
"Give me a hand!" Tang Bing beckoned Zhao Dagang to help him carry several office desks out. They arranged them at the base of the wall, stacking them to form makeshift steps.
Together, they heaved the loot up onto the wall using the stacked desks.
"Bing, I can't climb the tree with all this stuff!" Zhao Dagang, perched atop the wall, voiced his concern.
"What's the rush?" Tang Bing secured the bucket of water, then spun around to pull a rope from his virtual backpack. "Just tie it up and lower it down slowly!"
"Bing, you're a genius!" Zhao Dagang's face lit up with understanding at the sight of the rope. "Such a simple solution, and it never crossed my mind!"
"Enough talk, let's move!" Tang Bing knew Zhao Dagang wasn't truly dim-witted; he just often chose not to think things through, preferring to take the easy route.
With the rope, they bound the loot and gradually lowered it to the outside corner of the wall. Once everything was down, they climbed the tree and slid down the pole to the ground.
"Hey!" Zhao Dagang, now on the ground, eagerly scooped up their prizes. "Sun Meng and Qin Mengli are going to love these police uniforms!"
"Hmm?" Tang Bing was about to respond when he suddenly caught a glimpse of something darting by in the distance behind him. The object moved so swiftly, he couldn't make out what it was.
His instincts kicked in. This was no ordinary human or zombie; its speed was too incredible for any normal person to track!
Flashes of information about mutant zombies he had seen online came to mind. Had his luck run out, bringing him face-to-face with one?
"Bing, what's up?" Zhao Dagang noticed Tang Bing's expression turn grave as he scanned the surroundings with caution, prompting him to tense up as well.
Tang Bing glanced at Zhao Dagang and hoisted a jug of pure water onto his shoulder, his voice grave as he commanded, "Head home, now!"
"Okay!" Though unsure of the situation, Zhao Dagang sensed the urgency in Tang Bing's stern demeanor.
They quickly exited the police station, each carrying their loot, cautiously avoiding the dormant and roaming zombies that littered the streets.
"Bing, Zhao!" Sun Meng, who had been scouting the perimeter with binoculars, had already descended the stairs and was waiting at the iron gate.
"Why are you down here?" Tang Bing's brow furrowed upon seeing Sun Meng. "Where's Qin Mengli?"
"Mengli's upstairs," Sun Meng replied, unlocking the gate. "You guys found all this? Wow, you even got police uniforms!"
"Dagang, let's get this stuff inside, fast!" Tang Bing set the water jug down and scanned the surroundings.
Zhao Dagang wasted no time hauling their finds into the factory building.
"Bing, what are you looking for?" Sun Meng, noticing Tang Bing's anxious state, couldn't help but ask.
Tang Bing shot her a quick glance. "You didn't spot anything odd through the binoculars?"
"Nope!" Sun Meng shook her head. "Is something wrong?"
"Nothing. Just... lock the door," Tang Bing instructed, his eyes darting around cautiously.
"Oh, come on in then, Bing!" Sun Meng said, nodding.
"No, lock it now!" Tang Bing corrected her, shaking his head.
"What? Lock you out? Why?" Sun Meng was baffled. "Are you heading to the supermarket? If so, you should at least take Zhao with you!"
"Just lock the door! Do it now!" Tang Bing's tone intensified.
Sun Meng, though perplexed by his insistence, recognized the gravity in his voice and wasn't about to argue. She quickly secured the gate as instructed, her concern for him growing.
"What's going on?" Zhao Dagang finished stowing away their haul in the garage and returned to find the iron gate shut with Tang Bing still outside. He looked puzzled.
"I'm not sure, Bing told me to," Sun Meng admitted, just as bewildered.
"Open up, I'm going to the supermarket with Bing!" Zhao Dagang declared.
"Oh!" Sun Meng immediately grabbed the key, ready to unlock the door.
"Hold on!" Tang Bing swiftly intervened, "Don't open the door just yet!"
"Why not?" Sun Meng was genuinely puzzled.
"Bing, I'm still not out!" Zhao Dagang called out, clutching the iron gate's railings.
"Quiet!" Tang Bing commanded in a low voice, and in a flash, he spotted something hurtling towards him.
"What's going on here?" Qin Mengli, descending from upstairs, inquired with curiosity upon witnessing the scene.
Sun Meng and Zhao Dagang both turned to give her a look of shared bewilderment.
"Tang Bing, you..." Qin Mengli began, moving closer to the door to find out what was happening, when suddenly a dark figure slammed into the iron door with a thud.
The door rattled violently, startling Sun Meng and Qin Mengli so much that they collapsed to the ground, while Zhao Dagang stood frozen in place.
The shadow halted, pressing against the door and unleashing a ferocious roar at Tang Bing.
Tang Bing had anticipated its arrival. His Heart of the Sea, enhanced with +5 perception, proved its worth! As the creature emerged behind him, Tang Bing spun around, retreating swiftly while drawing a silenced handgun.
All four witnesses, inside and out, now clearly saw the black figure: a colossal mutant zombie wolf dog, resembling a Tibetan Mastiff. The beast bared its gaping maw, its crimson eyes locked onto Tang Bing, emitting a menacing growl.
"Bing..." Zhao Dagang was petrified by the sight of the massive mutant zombie dog.
"Roar~!" Spurred by Zhao Dagang's voice, the zombie dog whirled around, its roar thunderous, and the sturdy iron door seemed to waver.
Faced with such a monstrous creature, even the usually unflappable Zhao Dagang went pale and toppled over in fright.
And if Zhao Dagang was affected to such a degree, Qin Mengli and Sun Meng were far worse off. The two women clung to each other, shivering uncontrollably, rendered speechless by fear.
