C39 The Mutated Dog Was in Danger. He Had to Think of a Strategy to Kill the Giant Dog.
Indeed, what seems like a stroke of luck can turn into a disaster!
The trip to the police station was fruitful, filled with unexpected delights. But the outcome quickly turned into a nightmare!
Truth be told, even though Tang Bing had significantly increased his agility and boasted a +5 bonus to Sensory Perception, not to mention his handgun, he was still terrified when confronted with his first-ever mutant zombie dog.
In that critical moment, Zhao Dagang, Sun Meng, and Qin Mengli were petrified, lacking even the courage to offer words of encouragement.
It's no surprise, given the sheer size of the mutant zombie dog! From behind, it could easily be mistaken for a cow, and no one would question it.
Unlike other zombies, this mutant zombie dog's eyes glowed a sinister scarlet, appearing far more menacing than those of the White-Eyed Clan. And having witnessed its speed, Tang Bing knew that ordinary hunting dogs were fast, making it hard for most to dodge or retaliate. This mutant was on another level entirely. Without his enhanced agility and the +5 Sensory Perception from the Heart of the Sea, Tang Bing would have been easy prey.
The mutant zombie dog emitted a guttural growl as it swiftly circled Tang Bing, searching for any vulnerability.
Gripping his handgun firmly, Tang Bing remained composed, using his heightened perception to track the mutant zombie dog's movements while his muscles stayed coiled and ready.
"Roar!" After circling for a moment, the mutant zombie dog spotted an opening when Tang Bing was momentarily too slow to turn. Seizing the chance, it lunged forward, aiming for a lethal blow!
"Whoosh!" Tang Bing spun around just in time, pulling the trigger aimed at the mutant zombie dog. The gun, fitted with a silencer, emitted a subdued, almost silent sound.
Mid-charge, the mutant zombie dog sensed the impending danger and veered off with astonishing speed. It abandoned its attack on Tang Bing, narrowly avoiding the bullet.
"Bang!" The bullet struck a nearby trash can, sending sparks scattering.
It managed to dodge a head-on shot? It was incredibly fast! Tang Bing's heart pounded wildly in his chest as the super-speedy mutant zombie dog continued to press him, a relentless source of stress.
"Roar~" After its initial miss, the mutant zombie dog wasted no time circling Tang Bing once again, relentless in its pursuit to find an opening.
Tang Bing knew he couldn't afford to give the creature any openings, so he gripped his pistol tightly and swiftly shifted his stance, never taking his eyes off the mutant zombie dog.
He had learned from a young age that when facing a ferocious beast, you never turn your back on it.
The mutant dog circled Tang Bing a few times, then with a roar, it suddenly spun and sprinted in the opposite direction.
Caught off guard by the abrupt change, Tang Bing was momentarily stunned. He hadn't expected the mutant zombie dog to possess such cunning!
The maneuver left Tang Bing's back vulnerable to the beast's gaze once more. Seizing the moment, the creature charged toward him.
Luckily, his agility was boosted enough to compensate for the momentary lapse. Tang Bing quickly recovered, spinning around with astonishing speed to take another shot at the mutant zombie dog.
But just like before, the creature deftly evaded the bullet.
After two exchanges, neither could gain the upper hand.
The mutant zombie dog kept seeking an opening, even narrowing the distance between them, inching closer to Tang Bing.
Tang Bing's heart pounded as if it might leap from his throat. The thrill of facing down a mutant zombie dog was almost too much to handle!
Without his mysterious system, he'd surely be dead by now. An ordinary person stood no chance against such a beast!
This situation was untenable. If it dragged on and wandering zombies appeared, he'd be done for!
Tang Bing doubted he could survive against the formidable mutant zombie dog and a horde of roaming zombies.
He needed to dispatch the mutant zombie dog quickly and eliminate the greatest threat!
But its speed was incredible, dodging even direct gunfire. How could he land a shot? A body hit seemed futile; only a precise shot to the head would ensure victory.
Missing was one problem; Tang Bing's marksmanship was another. He had never handled a pistol before, let alone been trained. He couldn't hit the mutant zombie dog at close range, much less strike its head while it moved at such a fearsome pace—it seemed like a fool's errand.
Tang Bing had no other option but to fight; his life depended on it!
"Stay calm! Stay calm!" he repeated to himself, knowing he needed to create an opportunity to strike the mutant zombie dog at close range. He had to be within a surefire distance to take it down!
His mind raced as his eyes scanned the environment, vigilant of the mutant zombie dog's every move.
Then, he spotted something a hundred meters away—two houses side by side, so close that there was just a narrow gap between them, barely wide enough for a person to squeeze through.
Clearly, this gap wasn't meant for passage, as it was blocked at the far end.
But in that moment, Tang Bing saw a glimmer of hope!
Without a second thought, he shot at the mutant zombie dog, not aiming to hit but to distract.
As expected, the creature swiftly dodged, creating a slight distance between them.
This was the moment Tang Bing had been waiting for. As the mutant zombie dog evaded the bullets, he spun around and dashed toward the gap with astonishing speed.
Hearing Tang Bing's retreat, the mutant zombie dog let out a roar and went into full pursuit mode.
With only three bullets left and no time to reload, Tang Bing knew he couldn't afford to shoot. His speed was his only weapon now!
His enhanced agility wasn't for show, boosted further by his gear's attributes. The mutant zombie dog was closing in, but Tang Bing surged ahead, reaching the gap as if he were flying.
He could have outrun any world champion sprinter at that moment—they wouldn't even catch a glimpse of his heels!
With a fierce roar, the mutant zombie dog lunged at Tang Bing, its prey seemingly within reach.
But in the nick of time, Tang Bing leaped sideways with all his might, propelled by his running start, and squeezed through the tight space between the houses. His chest and thighs scraped against the rough walls, the pain nearly unbearable, but the thrill of success surged through him as he made it to the other side.
"Aooo~!" Tang Bing contorted his body, trying to make himself as small as possible, yet the narrow crevice still managed to graze his skin. The mutant zombie dog, with its buffalo-sized frame, had no chance of squeezing through. In a stroke of misfortune, its long, sharp snout got lodged in the gap during a ferocious lunge. It was pitifully stuck!
Tang Bing hadn't anticipated that the mutant zombie dog would get its mouth stuck. It seemed that being large wasn't always an advantage. His plan had been to take cover in the crevice and leverage this prime spot to open fire on the creature. Since the mutant zombie dog couldn't follow him into the gap, he could calmly reload after emptying his magazine.
But he couldn't pass up this godsend. The fates were smiling on him, and it would be foolish not to capitalize on this chance!
Without a second thought, he aimed his gun at the mutant zombie dog's head. As it frantically struggled, unable to free its snout from the tight space, Tang Bing fired three quick shots.
To his shock, the mutant zombie dog's head took the trio of bullets and still didn't succumb. Instead, it thrashed more wildly, on the verge of breaking free. Tang Bing couldn't afford to hesitate. There was no time to reload, but his virtual backpack still held pistols.
Determined to finish off the fearsome mutant zombie dog before it could escape and waste this golden opportunity, Tang Bing drew the two additional pistols from his backpack. Holding one in each hand, he unleashed a barrage of bullets at the creature's head.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!" Twelve thunderous shots rang out, emptying both pistols.
The mutant zombie dog's head was a gory mess, utterly revolting to look at, yet it was still not dead!
Tang Bing was nearly scared out of his wits. This was beyond belief! A normal zombie would drop dead instantly with a pierced skull. But this one was still alive after over a dozen shots. Had he missed the vital spot?
With no time to ponder, he stowed his guns and swiftly switched to the fire axe. He targeted the mutant zombie dog's head and hacked away relentlessly.
After enduring a barrage of bullets, the mutant zombie dog's ferocity had waned, its struggles growing feeble. This allowed Tang Bing to methodically deliver axe blow after axe blow.
After hacking away more than twenty times, Tang Bing finally felt his arms grow sore and weak as the mutated zombie dog ceased its struggles.
[You have defeated a Mutant Zombie Dog Type A and earned 800 experience points!]
[You have leveled up!]
[You have leveled up!]
Tang Bing could hardly believe it—taking down just one mutated zombie dog had catapulted him up two whole levels! The experience gained was incomparable to that from regular zombies; it was like night and day!
But then again, regular zombies didn't hold a candle to the terror of the mutated zombie dog. It took fifteen bullets to the head and over twenty chops with the fire axe before its head was reduced to a bloody pulp, finally bringing it down! Had he not used the terrain to his advantage, trapping the beast, he doubted he could have managed the kill.
There was no time for Tang Bing to revel in his triumph, as the distant roars of countless zombies filled the air.
The twelve gunshots had broadcasted his location to every wandering zombie nearby. If they converged on his position, he'd be trapped with no escape, like a turtle in a jar!
Without a moment's hesitation, Tang Bing delivered a series of fierce kicks to the mutated zombie dog's nearly lifeless mouth, sending it flying. He then swiftly vacated the crevice, looting the corpse for spoils before the horde could descend upon him.
Thanks to the +5 perception boost from the Ocean’s Heart, he'd know the moment a zombie entered his vicinity—and he'd be ready to make a break for it!
