C15 Yaya Wanted to Fight!(2)

Lin Ya was starting to panic.

Lin Chen suddenly embraced her tightly, his voice catching as he spoke, "Yaya, in my dream, my mistake led to you and our parents leaving me behind too soon, leaving me to live alone in this world. My dream... it was filled with nothing but pain and regret... Waking up, I was terrified, terrified that it might all come true."

Lin Ya stopped pressing him about his dream, tenderly stroking his face as she comforted him, "Brother, don't be scared. It was only a dream. We're still together, aren't we? Mom and Dad will be okay. You've made sure they have plenty of supplies. They'll be safe, I'm sure of it."

"Yaya, you're right. They will be safe. But with communications down and the apocalypse upon us, monsters roaming everywhere, we need to master our Extrasensory Perception. That's our ticket to fighting our way back home to reunite with Mom and Dad."

"Right. Brother, I can feel several streams of energy inside me. Is that the Extrasensory Perception you're talking about? Teach me what you know about it."

"The specifics of the dream are blurry now. I'll share what I can recall."

"Dreams are like that, aren't they? You only remember bits and pieces, and then it all fades away. Let's make the most of what you still remember; tell me whatever you can."

"Extrasensory Perception, well, it goes like this... Do you get it now?"

"Yeah, some of it's making sense. The blue swirl in my dantian is the water type, the green swirl is the wood type, the white fog in my mind is mental energy, and the silver mist is an unidentified type of Extrasensory Perception. Brother, I think the silver swirl might be time-related because I can feel time passing, second by second. I even feel like I might be able to speed up or slow down time in a specific area."

Lin Chen's face drained of color. "What? Time-related Extrasensory Perception?! Are you certain?"

In his past life, he had never heard of anyone possessing such a power. At most, there were rumors of time-related treasures found in massive ruins, but who ended up with those treasures was a mystery.

"I can give it a shot."

Lin Ya effortlessly snatched up a slip of paper and tossed it skyward. The paper wafted down gently.

Suddenly, with a shift in Lin Ya's gaze, the paper's descent slowed to a crawl, mimicking the slow-motion effect from a film.

Then, with another flicker of her eyes, the paper, as if it were iron, snapped out of its languid fall and hit the ground instantly.

Lin Chen, with a surge of excitement, clutched Lin Ya's shoulders. "Yaya, this is truly Time Extrasensory Perception. Yaya, this is an extraordinary ability. You absolutely cannot let anyone else find out about this."

"Why not?"

"Yaya, you're not aware that in the apocalypse, the greatest threat isn't zombies or mutated beasts—it's our own species. The first of us to manifest these abilities will draw the scrutiny of numerous research institutes, especially those of us with multiple types of Extrasensory Perception. We're not strong enough to stand against them yet. So, from this moment on, we must conceal our abilities and only reveal them as if they've been triggered in combat. And for the time being, you should only exhibit your wood-type ability."

"You can subtly incorporate your other abilities into your wood-type Extrasensory Perception during a fight, but you must ensure no one catches on. Even if they do, never acknowledge it. Yaya, it's crucial that you heed my advice on this.

"Furthermore, your Time ability must remain a secret at all costs. If you're ever cornered, just claim you possess psychic abilities—that any anomalies your opponent experiences are due to your psychic powers. As long as you don't disclose your Time ability, no one will suspect it. And you must never reveal this to our parents; we can't risk putting them in danger."

Lin Ya looked into her brother's eyes, brimming with urgent concern, and nodded in agreement.

Lin Chen pressed on, "Yaya, with the apocalypse upon us, danger lurks at every turn. So I need to know, do you have the resolve to make it back home to see our parents? To put it another way, are you ready to fight? If you're scared to engage in battle, then I'll protect you from here on out. You can just be the good girl you are. I'm confident I can keep you safe..."

"Brother, stop right there. I refuse to cower behind you while you face the fight alone! I am ready to fight! I want to stand by your side in battle and make our way back home to see Mom and Dad!"

Indeed, Lin Ya, soft on the outside but tough on the inside, was not content to simply stand behind her brother and watch him confront danger alone.

Although she had initially been terrified of the monsters outside, her brother's presence provided her with a sense of security, and the drive to fight her way home to see her parents fueled her courage. Furthermore, the enhancements to her physical and mental strength, courtesy of her four types of Extrasensory Perception, instilled in her the confidence to take on those monsters head-on.

"Alright, I'm going to train your endurance and combat skills. Just don't hold it against me for being tough on you."

"Brother, I won't hold anything against you. Go ahead and set it up."

Lin Chen opened the storage locker and pulled out an assortment of items—food, clothing, and gear. "Yaya, take it easy for a moment. Swap out your high-top boots for combat boots. The jeans can stay, but let's switch your down jacket for a fitted leather one. As for your beautiful long hair... hmm... it would be a shame to cut it, so just tie it up and tuck it under this beige beret."

He then produced four elongated wooden boxes. "Here we have two Miao knives and two swords. Yaya, which do you prefer, knives or swords?"

The two gleaming Miao knives and the quartet of swords lay on the coffee table, ordinary weapons with a hardness rating of 56. To the average person, these were fine blades indeed.

These weapons were more than capable of handling Zero Level zombies and mutated beasts. They could even take on First Level creatures, albeit with a bit more effort.

Lin Chen preferred not to draw attention by revealing any superior blades just yet.

"Wow, Brother, that's a lot of stuff. You'd be bankrupt if the apocalypse hadn't hit. I'd like to use a sword."

Lin Chen's smile was tinged with nostalgia; Yaya had always preferred swords, even in her past life.

The sword weighed fourteen pounds, a heft that Lin Ya, prior to last night's transformation, would not have managed. But now, post-Purification and awakening of her Extrasensory Perception, the weight was negligible in her hands.

"Yaya, next I'll teach you some basic combat moves. Hold the sword like this... pivot your feet this way... follow my commands... Step left, pivot right, and swing the sword in a backhand slice... good... Now step right, pivot left, and swing in a forehand slice... thrust... downward chop... Remember, a zombie's weak spot is its brain. When fighting zombies with a sword, aim to sever the neck or penetrate the brain through the eyes, ears, or temples. You can also aim to cleave open its head from behind. For now, focus on mastering these moves."

"Let's work on some leg techniques now. Lift your knee, and then kick out..."

"Keep in mind, the key to these leg techniques is to prevent a zombie's fingers from making contact with your body. Even though those with Extrasensory Perception have a resistance to viruses carried by zombies of the same level, it's crucial to establish a strong combat awareness early on. This way, you won't be at a disadvantage when facing higher-level zombies later on."

Lin Ya nodded quietly, taking to heart the combat principles her brother was instilling in her.

Given her current physical condition and mental fortitude, she quickly met Lin Chen's initial expectations.

"Excellent. Next, we'll focus on building your mental resilience. Stay inside for a moment; I'm going to go out and bring back a zombie for you to train with."
