C68 Leaving

Upon Han Feng's return, the Witch's demeanor eased slightly. He hadn't deceived her into leaving after all.

Yet, he had been gone for quite some time. The Witch's expression grew stern as she gave Han Feng a cold look. If he didn't have a good explanation, she wouldn't be so forgiving.

Feeling the weight of the Witch's icy stare, Han Feng was under immense pressure.

She might well be a master of the same caliber as the Family Head.

"Kid, it shouldn't take this long to gather herbs, should it?"

Han Feng quickly produced a jade bottle. "It wasn't intentional. The herbs in the vicinity were just too inferior, so I had to refine them. Otherwise, they'd be of no use to your wounds."

"Refine? You mean to say you've made a Pill? Are you an Alchemist?"

"That doesn't add up. You're just a Mortal-rank Martial Cultivator. How could you possibly concoct a Pill?" The Witch scrutinized Han Feng.

"I'm certainly not an Alchemist, but I do have other techniques. You'll know if you check for yourself," Han Feng replied, offering her the jade bottle.

The Witch accepted the bottle and inspected it closely.

"Just an ordinary jade bottle," she concluded internally, feeling a twinge of disappointment. Precious Spirit Creatures, like Spirit Fruits or esteemed Pills, were typically stored in special jade vessels.

Han Feng couldn't help but inwardly smirk.

The bottle, a product of the Nine Flames Heavenly Fire Tower, was only meant to collect and store the origin fluid, with no other special properties. Otherwise, he could amass a fortune just from these bottles alone.

Moreover, the origin fluid had to be kept in a jade bottle; placed in any other container, no matter how valuable, the fluid would lose its potency and be indistinguishable from regular water.

...

Despite her initial letdown, the Witch uncorked the bottle with a sliver of hope.

Instantly, her face lit up with surprise.

As the stopper came off, a dense wave of spirit energy and a medicinal scent wafted to her nose.

With her vast experience and knowledge, the Witch recognized at once that the contents of this unassuming jade bottle were indeed quite remarkable.

By this point, the Witch had completely forgotten her earlier curiosity about the unremarkable jade bottle.

After a moment of contemplation, she let out a breath, "I never imagined you'd have such a skill up your sleeve. All my life, I've known healing to be done with pills or directly with Spirit Fruits. It's quite uncommon to see someone refine them into a liquid form like you have."

"But that doesn't add up. Even if it's not about crafting pills, turning them into liquid... How on earth did you manage to do that with your Mortal-rank abilities?" The Witch eyed Han Feng with a mix of suspicion and intrigue.

With a sense of resignation, Han Feng simply spread his hand open, and a burst of scarlet mortal fire erupted from his palm.

The Witch's face transformed with shock, "Mortal fire, and no ordinary one at that! Good heavens! When did Mortal-rank Martial Cultivators start wielding such powerful mortal fire?"

She gazed at Han Feng, her look one of bewilderment, "You're quite the anomaly. It's no wonder the Chang family would go to such lengths to eliminate you, even at the cost of their relationship with the Han family. If you were to fully come into your own, you'd be nothing short of remarkable."

Han Feng wore a sheepish expression.

The Witch then inquired, "What herb did you refine this from? With such a rich medicinal scent and spirit energy, it rivals a Level 6 Pill. Surely, this herb is capable of producing a Late Period or even Peak Level 6 Pill! To my knowledge, there's no such herb near this valley."

"Not even in the Jade Peak Mountain Range."

If there were, the most formidable Devil Beast of the Jade Peak Mountain Range would be at the late stage of Level 6, not merely the early or middle stages.

"It's Nine Leaves Crystal Grass," Han Feng answered.

The jade bottle nearly slipped from the Witch's grasp. She stared at Han Feng, incredulous, "You can't be serious? Nine Leaves Crystal Grass is typically used for Level 5 Pills."

Han Feng just smiled, offering no further explanation, and simply requested, "I'd appreciate your discretion."

The Witch met his gaze with a solemn nod, "Rest assured. You've risked revealing such a secret to heal my wounds. If I were to betray your trust, I'd be unworthy of my humanity. Even in death, my lips are sealed."

In that moment, the Witch truly placed her faith in Han Feng, trusting him completely.

A tempest of emotions stirred within her. To think that there existed a method of refining that could surpass the medicinal effects of pills was astonishing. Han Feng took on an air of mystery in her eyes.

With a smile, the Witch said, "So, you're Han Feng? From now on, you're my brother. No more 'senior'—just call me Lin Qingshan, or Sister Lin for short."

Han Feng felt a surge of happiness, realizing he had genuinely been accepted by the Witch.

He was curious though. "Your last name is Lin, and it's the Lin family after you. Could it be that..."

Her expression turned grim. "Yes, I belong to the Lin family, but only to a side branch."

"Those Lin family scoundrels will regret their actions one day!" The Witch's face twisted with fury, her eyes flashing with deep-seated hatred and pain.

Han Feng remained silent. Sister Lin clearly had a past.

They resumed their activities without further conversation. The Witch focused on healing her wounds, while Han Feng dedicated himself to his cultivation practice.

When the Witch saw Han Feng produce a jade bottle brimming with potent spirit energy, she sighed inwardly, "This kid is full of surprises. He even has a liquid that boosts cultivation. Given time, he might become one of the formidable warriors of the Great Jin Nation."

Time flew swiftly by, and before they knew it, a day had passed.

Thanks to the origin fluid, Han Feng's cultivation progressed rapidly.

His Internal Strength had been at the late Mortal Rank, with his True Qi nearing sixty percent. Now, he had truly reached that level, perhaps even surpassing it. With another day or two of training, reaching seventy percent would be well within reach.

A night's worth of cultivation also saw significant improvement in Lin Qingshan's injuries.

She could move without much difficulty, which delighted her. "I had anticipated needing three or four more days of healing, but to think I'd be up and about after just one night."

With this in mind, Lin Qingshan addressed Han Feng, "Brother, I'm able to leave now. What's your plan? Will you come with me, or do you have other intentions?"

Han Feng immediately declared, "I'll stick with Sister Lin. The Chang family will despise me for the deaths of Hei One and the others, wishing nothing more than my demise."

"Unless I remain within the Han family's protection, my life is constantly at risk."

"Yet, staying with the Han family indefinitely may boost my cultivation foundation, but it might not necessarily sharpen my combat awareness and other skills. It's wiser to accompany Sister Lin. Once she's fully healed and I've advanced to Human Rank, I can return to my clan when I'm capable of defending myself."

Lin Qingshan nodded in agreement. "That sounds like a plan. Let's move out."

With that, Lin Qingshan scooped up Han Feng, and they swiftly vanished into the valley.

Shortly after their departure, Master Chang had already begun covertly dispatching people to look for Hei One and his companions.

Within days, Master Chang discovered the remnants of the battle in the valley. And he wasn't alone; accompanying him was an Elder from the Lin family!
