C241 Grandfather's Teacher(4)
"Alright, stop overthinking it and hurry up with your response."
"Even though you won't be able to reach a state of Perfection by then, with your abilities, passing the national exam should be a breeze!"
At this point, War God Xu gave Chu Yi a serious look.
"Tomorrow's the day you set out. Once you're in the national exam, you'll be the face of Redmarsh City."
"Kid, you better not let Redmarsh City down!"
With that, War God Xu strode away without a backward glance.
But just as he was about to vanish through the door, he turned back and added, "Oh, and your grandmother, our Fourth Senior Sister, is a Sky Level War God."
"So, if you want to make a name for yourself in the Chu family, make sure you're backing the right horse..."
Seeing the schadenfreude on War God Xu's face, Chu Yi was momentarily taken aback.
It took him a while to collect himself.
Now, Chu Yi's interest in his own family had grown even stronger.
He had always thought his grandfather, a War God, was the mainstay of the Chu family, but it turned out there was another key figure!
His grandfather's Senior Sister, his grandmother, was a Sky Level War God!
That was somewhat terrifying.
It's no wonder his family was quietly referred to as the foremost family!
Chu Yi had been cautious about this revelation for some time. Although he now harbored no resentment towards the aristocratic families and was even set to represent the Aristocratic Alliance in securing a place at the Milky Way Academy, he had never let his guard down.
Others might be swayed by flattery from these family magnates, but Chu Yi remained level-headed.
Previously, the idea of the Chu family being the preeminent family didn't fill him with pride but with a sense of unease.
Being number one meant being the target that everyone else had their sights set on!
Of course, the most crucial point was that, in Chu Yi's view, it was unlikely for the Chu family to actually be the top family!
Others might say so, but surely they were setting up the Chu family as a scapegoat.
This was, after all, an easy conclusion to draw.
After all, one should be aware of the numerous powerhouses within the federation, and by powerhouses, I mean War Gods.
In the Adirang Region, all the known War Gods were part of the government, except for those in the Aristocratic Alliance—
Not a single one!
Yet, what is the Aristocratic Alliance?
It's a force that can go toe-to-toe with the federal government!
Throughout the years of conflict, only in the struggle for Redmarsh did the families of the Alliance find themselves at a disadvantage. Elsewhere, as the old man says, the federal government and the Aristocratic Alliance were evenly matched.
Without significant deterrent power, how could the Aristocratic Alliance claim the right to stand equal with the federal government?
Indeed, the Aristocratic Alliance only publicly acknowledged one War God, their grandfather, but behind the scenes...
Chu Yi was convinced there were numerous War God Level beings lurking in the shadows, likely even Sky Level War Gods, and certainly more than one or two!
The status of the Chu family as the preeminent aristocratic family and the benefits that come with it didn't overly concern Chu Yi.
His interest in the Chu family stemmed from the fact that they were his kin, and that was all that mattered to him.
Chu Yi had even discussed this with his grandfather, who offered no objection, seemingly convinced of the Chu family's premier status.
This led Chu Yi to believe his grandfather might be somewhat overconfident.
But what could Chu Yi do?
After all, the man was his own grandfather!
Now, Chu Yi understood that his grandfather truly had a reason to be confident.
Indeed, it stemmed from his grandmother's assurance.
With a grandmother who was a Sky Level War God and a grandfather at the Earth Level, they were a family with two War Gods!
Even if other aristocratic families harbored hidden War Gods, they likely couldn't stand against the Chu family.
Another point to consider was that, according to War God Xu, both his grandparents hailed from the same powerful sect!
That was rather frightening...
He was already aware of three War Gods, and it appeared that his grandfather's fellow sect members were likely on a similar level.
With such a lineage, it's no wonder his grandfather was brimming with confidence.
"Chu Yi..."
"What should we do about Adams?"
Lee Zi's voice interrupted Chu Yi's thoughts.
Adams...
Chu Yi had almost forgotten about him.
With a slight furrow of his brow, he responded, "Let him in..."
Chu Yi was curious to see what the other party intended to do.
Lee Zi gave a nod in agreement.
Shortly after, Adams entered the room, walking in behind Lee Zi.
Chu Yi observed Adams quietly. Initially, Adams appeared somewhat panicked, but soon a look of resolve flashed in his eyes.
It seemed Adams had come to a decision. Without any hesitation, he knelt before Chu Yi.
Chu Yi allowed it, intrigued by what Adams was up to.
"Young Master Chu, I acknowledge my previous actions were wrong," Adams began.
Chu Yi's lips quirked in amusement. "Is that all they were—merely wrong?"
Adams's expression wavered. "I deserve death..."
"Then perhaps you should die..."
Adams's face contorted in shock.
He hadn't anticipated Chu Yi's unconventional response. Adams was no fool; he knew there were countless ways to die if that was what he truly desired.
There was no need for him to voice it.
Yet, upon hearing Chu Yi's words, a cold sweat broke out on Adams's back.
"Young Master Chu, surely you jest..."
Chu Yi gestured dismissively. "I assure you, I'm not joking."
"You're aware that I prefer to keep my secrets undisclosed."
"And who better to keep a secret than..."
Adams found himself at a loss for words.
Had he made a miscalculation?
Regret crept into Adams's mind.
He had convinced himself of his course of action, but now, facing Chu Yi, memories of their previous encounter involuntarily flooded his thoughts.
It had been a mere four hours since their last battle.
In such a brief span, forgetting was not an option for Adams.
"I, I..."
Chu Yi waved his hand. "State your intentions, or I won't hesitate to erase your existence."
Chu Yi's gaze was icy, and Adams could feel the weight of his resolve.
All the carefully prepared speeches had slipped from his memory.
Under Chu Yi's penetrating stare, Adams felt as though he had no secrets left.
At last, Adams seemed to reach a conclusion. He inhaled deeply and spoke.
"I wish to serve you, Young Master!"
"To be frank, I'm seeking your protection!"
With his piece said, Adams lapsed into silence.
Chu Yi watched Adams, a flicker of interest in his eyes.
Truth be told, Chu Yi found Adams to be a rather complex individual.
Sometimes I feel like an idiot, but at other times, I feel incredibly smart.
But this time...
Chu Yi witnessed yet another facet of Adams – his audacity!
It was more than just boldness; it was downright excessive!
Knowing full well that Chu Yi intended to kill him, he still had the nerve to seek refuge with Chu Yi. This wasn't something that could cross the mind of an average person, much less be acted upon.
"Why?"
Chu Yi was certain that Adams wasn't fabricating the truth.
A mere Diamond simply didn't have the standing to spin lies and try to deceive him, Chu Yi!
