C2 2

It was 6:30 am, and Daniel was sitting at his kitchen table sipping on a cup of coffee as he read through an article about the market. His daughter Lisa was already asleep and his nanny Emily was getting ready to arrive. She was the second nanny he hired after the unfortunate death of his last one. Emily had been hired because her resume was impressive, and she was perfect for the job. She had a lot of experience dealing with children and her parents were well known in the community.

He was impatiently awaiting Emily's arrival and the start of her first day as the nanny for his daughter Lisa in his mansion. He looked at his wristwatch and saw that it was 7 a.m. He sighed and hoped against hope that she would be able to make it on time. He forgot to inquire as to whether she lived a long distance away or close by. However, based on the way Emily dressed yesterday, she didn't appear to be in great financial shape, but she wasn't completely broke either.

A few minutes later, Emily rang the doorbell and Daniel opened the front door and allowed her to step inside. She wore a pair of black jeans that were tight enough to show off her curvy figure and a matching blouse. Her long hair reached down to just above her waistline, and she wore a pair of sunglasses that covered the top half of her face.

"Good morning, Mr. Blake," Emily said as she walked into the room. "I'm glad I was able to come on time."

Daniel stared at the woman, and he was taken back by how attractive she was. He was immediately drawn to her as soon as he laid eyes on her. The moment their gazes met, he felt like he had known her his whole life. She was the most beautiful creature that he had ever seen in his entire existence. He was also impressed with her confidence and her poise. Emily stood there for a minute looking at him before walking over to sit at the kitchen table.

"So, you're here to take care of my daughter Lisa?" Daniel asked.

Emily nodded her head and replied, "Yes sir, that's exactly what I am here for. You don't mind if we go through this paperwork now do you? I need to get started right away, and it will help me to know where everything is."

Daniel shook his head and said, "No, not at all. Let's start by filling out the forms so that we can officially begin our job interview. I'm sure you've already read over the contract, but I want to make sure that you understand everything in the agreement."

He handed her a stack of papers and she began to look them over. "What does this form say?" She asked as she pointed to one of the papers.

"It says that you are required to sign an NDA," Daniel said as he pulled up another paper, "and it means non-disclosure agreement. It basically states that you will not divulge any information regarding your employer, her family members, or any other employees. I think you'll find that most employers have similar contracts because they protect their companies from being exposed to the public. If people knew that a company had a particular employee working for them, then they could use that knowledge against them in some way. And there is no telling how far someone might go to gain leverage over the company."

Emily was confused because she wasn't going to work in his company but his mansion as a nanny, she didn't expect him to ask her to sign such a thing but she didn't mind because she was badly in need for this Job. She intended to stay in the mansion too.

"Ok, I agree to the terms of this contract and I understand what you're saying," She said as she put down the paper and signed the bottom of the document with a pen, "so now let's talk about pay. What is the rate for my services?"

"The going rate for a part time nanny is $12 an hour," Daniel replied, "but I would like to offer you $15 per hour because of your experience."

Emily smiled and said, "I'm sorry, but I can't accept that amount. I need at least $20 an hour. My current salary is only $11, and it's been a struggle to get by."

Daniel stared at her for a moment before he stood up and walked towards the door leading out of the room. "I understand," He said, "But I don't make that much money myself so I am limited on what I can offer. I hope that you'll be willing to work for me for a little less than the average person makes."

"That shouldn't be a problem," She replied, "what else do we have to discuss?"

"Well, there is the issue of insurance," Daniel sighed, "and then there are also other things such as the possibility of having to take time off from time to time. You might even get sick or injured, and you might need to go in for a few days."

She shook her head and said, "You mean like when someone gets pregnant? Like if I got pregnant?"

"Yes," Daniel nodded, "that's exactly what I'm talking about."

Emily looked down at the floor with a pouty expression on her face. She was clearly disappointed, but she understood how things worked and that this wasn't a good fit. She had been looking forward to getting into her new job and moving out of the house where she currently lived. It was a big disappointment for her because she really wanted this job and she knew it would help her out financially.

Daniel sat back down on the chair across from her, "I understand, and I'm sorry, but I just don't have the money to pay you more than $15 an hour. And if that isn't enough for you then you should probably consider working somewhere else."

"Are you sure about this?" She asked. "Because I can find another job."

Daniel sighed, "Look, I know you're not happy, and I want you to be happy too, but unfortunately my hands are tied right now. If you can work for me for $15 per hour then I will make sure to compensate you well in other ways such as a nice room in the mansion to live in, access to the private beach, and free food from the chef who prepares the meals."

Emily nodded her head and said, "Ok, I guess that's fine. Is there anything else?"

"Well," Daniel replied, "there is one last thing that I need to tell you before we get started. Are you ready?"

Emily smiled and said, "Sure, let's go ahead and discuss it."

He took a deep breath and then spoke up. "There might be times when I may have to travel out of state or out of the country on business trips. This could happen once every couple months. It usually only takes me 2 days to come back home, so you shouldn't worry about your job."

"What do you mean?" Emily asked.

"I'll be gone for about two days at most," He explained, "and then I'll be able to come back in time for my daughter to start her day with you. So, if I have to leave for a few days, then you should expect that you will be here alone for those days."

Emily frowned, and she was confused. She had been hired to work full-time for him, and now it sounded like he wasn't going to pay her for all of the hours that she worked. "Do I still get paid during this period?" She asked.

Daniel nodded his head and replied, "Of course, I would never ask you to work without paying you. Actually you can come with me and my daughter if you would like to."

"Great, Sure, I'd love to be with her all the time. I love babies that's why I decided to work as a nanny." She said as she stood up from the chair and walked over to Daniel. "Then let's get started."
