C22 Lies Aren't a Good Child

Before Wang Yan could even react, Goldie was already making its move. It lifted its wings to preen the crest feathers on its head, wiggling its rear end in a rather showy manner.

"Hello, beautiful lady! My name is Goldie, I'm the boss's chicken..."

Whoosh!

Thwack!

A jarring noise cut through the air as Goldie vanished, only to reappear plastered against a nearby tree.

Wang Yan: "..."

Wu Liqiang: "!!!"

The students: "???"

With a resigned sigh, Wang Yan plucked Goldie from the tree and tossed it onto the car roof. It had to be said, this creature could really take a hit.

Once Green advanced to a Lord, a flick of its tail could reduce a ferocious beast of the same rank to mush, and even a leader would be left critically injured. Yet Goldie, having taken two hits, was ruffled but remarkably unscathed.

Flapping its wings, Goldie hopped down and sidled up to the hen with a suave air.

"May I have the pleasure of your acquaintance, beautiful lady?"

"Cluck?"

The hen gave it a side-eye, raised its rear, and proceeded to lay another egg.

Wang Yan: "..."

Zhang Wei: "..."

"Wang, I gotta say, your bird seems a bit... well... not quite..."

Zhang Wei struggled to find the words, but Wang Yan got the gist.

"The biggest regret of my life is making a contract with this one. I've got this nagging feeling it's going to ruin my reputation."

Wang Yan facepalmed, feeling the onset of a major headache.

"I've never seen a spirit beast that can talk like a human before. Wang, how much did you pay for this bird?"

"I didn't pay anything; it was a gift from the boss!"

Zhang Wei: "???"

Though the details of Goldie's past were a mystery, the sheer velocity of its flight and the depth it embedded into the tree gave a rough idea of Green's formidable strength. Yet, despite such a fearsome attack, Goldie seemed unfazed. One could only wonder at the extent of its resilience.

"Hurry up, get in the car, get in the car!"

Wu Liqiang just couldn't take it anymore. One was strutting around like a human-sized bird, another was laying eggs in the most undignified manner – it was a sight for sore eyes.

"Alright, alright!"

Zhang Wei nodded and bowed profusely as he quickly gathered up the old hen.

"Heartbreak is part of life, so why should I fall so deeply? Youth is bound to leave us with regrets."

Goldie let out a sigh and leapt onto Wang Yan's shoulder. "Boss, your bird's heartbroken."

Wang Yan was speechless.

Once everyone was aboard, the driver hit the road.

They were over a thousand kilometers from their destination, facing a journey of roughly twenty hours.

Wang Yan slumped in his seat, dozing off, while Goldie hopped around the vehicle.

"Hello there, gorgeous."

Goldie looked up, fixating on the curve that the girl's clothes had accentuated.

"Hi!"

The girl beamed, stroking Goldie's head before lifting it onto her lap.

"Such a sweet and lovely girl like you must have plenty of admirers."

Basking in the girl's caresses, Goldie blissfully squinted its eyes.

"Not at all, I've never had a boyfriend."

The girl sighed, her face a picture of melancholy. "My best friend has had five boyfriends in three years, yet I've never even held a man's hand. Maybe I'm just not good enough, not like her, always catching the boys' eyes. Or maybe it's because my chest is too big; they seem to prefer smaller-breasted girls."

"Oh, really? But telling lies isn't nice, you know!"

Goldie dove into the girl's shirt and emerged with a round, thick pad in its beak.

With Goldie's action, the girl's chest went from an E-cup to an A, deflating instantly.

The girl was speechless.

She glanced at the sponge pad in Goldie's beak, then at her own uneven chest, her fair complexion turning a shade of steely blue.

"Drop dead!"

Her scream, laced with murderous fury, startled Wang Yan so much that he leapt from his seat.

"Who's there?!"

Wang Yan bellowed, pulling a dagger from his chest and flinging it towards the source of the hostile aura.

Whoosh!

With a force of 100 points, the dagger possessed an incredibly potent piercing power.

Should it strike, it could even rend the flesh of a Rank 3 ferocious beast.

Wang Yan's reflexes were lightning-fast, almost too intense.

Zhang Wei, right by his side, couldn't even register what happened before a gust of wind nicked his nose, leaving a tiny cut.

Given the physical condition of these students, including the girl who had screamed, anyone in the dagger's path would have been impaled and met a gruesome end.

Fortunately, it hadn't come to that. A verdant tail snaked out from a backpack, intercepting the dagger mid-flight.

Ting!

The sound was sharp, echoing faintly.

Wang Yan broke out in a cold sweat, shaken. If not for Green's swift response, the situation could have turned dire.

"What's going on?"

Zhang Wei glanced at Wang Yan, then at the dagger on the ground, completely bewildered.

He was clueless about the events that had unfolded; he'd only heard Wang Yan's sudden shout before a gale whipped past him.

Zhang Wei's nose tickled. Touching it instinctively, he discovered blood.

"What the heck? What just happened? Did I wake up to the apocalypse or something?"

"It's nothing, just a pesky fly."

Wu Liqiang withdrew his hand back into his sleeve, his approval of Wang Yan growing.

Such vigilance was essential to survive in a world fraught with danger.

"Thank you, Teacher!"

Wang Yan expressed his deep gratitude. He had noticed Wu Liqiang's readiness to act—if Green hadn't blocked the dagger, Wu Liqiang would have intervened.

Moreover, Wu Liqiang's offhand remark had quelled the brewing storm, albeit unfairly pinning the blame on the girl.

Though unjust, it was the best course of action under the circumstances.

Wang Yan sighed, resolving to make it up to the girl later. She shouldn't have to shoulder the blame undeservedly.

"Boss, my bad!"

Goldie hung its head, eyes darting about.

Clearly, it hadn't truly grasped its error. Or perhaps it had, yet had no intention of amending its ways.

"You're losing two days' worth of rations as punishment!"

"Boss, I'm sorry! Please, no!"

Goldie let out a pained scream, clinging to Wang Yan's calves with its wings, wailing loudly.

But Wang Yan wasn't swayed by the theatrics. Who did Goldie think it was fooling?

With a dismissive snort, Wang Yan intended to confine Goldie to the contract space.

However, just then, an intriguing idea struck him.

What was the point of fake tears? If Goldie was going to cry, it should be genuine.

So, Wang Yan gently rubbed Goldie's eyes with his finger.

Goldie: "???"

Tears streamed down uncontrollably, and this time, Goldie truly wept.

It cried with a raw, heartbreaking intensity.

Wu Liqiang: "..."

Wu Liqiang felt an immense sense of frustration. He couldn't figure out what was happening, but he had this nagging suspicion that bringing Wang Yan on board at M Province University might not have been the wisest decision.

The kid was undeniably a prodigy. He had achieved a Level 3 Soul Contract and possessed two Lord-tier spirit beasts straight out of high school.

But his knack for stirring up trouble was equally exceptional. Once he started classes, it seemed the faculty and the dean might never know peace again.
