Her mate was in love with someone else, Alina knew what she had to do. Drake was going to do it anyways. he was going to reject her and she'd be damned if she'd let him so she did it first, and she hated it. she hated the feeling, the realization that she came second, that she was never enough for her own fated mate, that she couldn't hold a candle to someone else. she was alone again, but maybe loneliness is all that she'll get from this world. 
Drake wanted it to be Hailey, she was supposed to be the one that fate bound him too. He had loved her since he was bound, she had always been there, but with every year that passed it felt like he knew sooner or later, the lie he had cultivated for so long would break. That Hailey wouldn't be his mate and he was right. But he wouldn't let her go. He couldn't let Hailey down. It was simple really just go up to the girl and reject her as softly as possible without letting his wolf take over and mark her right there and then.  But she did it first and he thought he'd be happy. He thought he'd feel like he was free. He never thought he'd feel so...lonely. Like a piece of him was gone.
